We visited Emerson's in Dunedin to taste the famous locally made beers & especially Albar's salted caramel whisky. I fell in love with the place at first sight. The red brick building with black interior was very inviting. The atmosphere, the interior, the vibe was just wonderful & full of zest & energy. I witnessed people of every age group enjoying their heart out. Excellent drinks & sumptuous food but a bit on the higher prices side. If you are looking to taste the awesome local beers, drinks & gourmet dishes there's Emerson's at the top spot. A must visit.
Our experience as a family celebrating a birthday was far from many of the glowing 5 reviews!!!!nWait staff were terrible, food was less than average and then the drinks that were ordered couldn’t be made due to not having defrosted berries!!!nSo it was a Sunday with plenty of patrons and plenty of wait staff on the floor. Our wait person was like a limp rag!! No welcome couldn’t say what the fish of the day was and generally had a poor attitude. The food matched her poor performance overpriced cold venison burger. NO THANKS.nThis is not the first visit to Emerson’s and past experiences have been great with good food. But we will not be going back. Emerson’s you need to get your act together. There are plenty of eatery’s all looking to have patrons on seats. Not everyone needs to put up with the slow Sunday attitude of student wait staff.
This place was amazing! The bar manager deserves a medal—or at least a raise. Not only was he incredibly friendly, but he also gave us a full TED Talk on rugby and even moved our table next to actual rugby players All Blacks. We don’t know if we became part of the team, but we were mentally preparing to be tackled.nnBut then… there was Mic Mac. A local roughian who appeared to have been baptized in cocaine. This man had the energy of a raccoon on Red Bull. He would not leave us alone, but thankfully, the bar manager handled him like a bouncer at the gates of Heaven—swift and final.nnBut the real adventure started when we asked for a bar recommendation. We were just casually walking there, thinking we’d enjoy a chill drink, when BAM—out of nowhere, a flash mob of 300 wild 20-year-olds exploded around us. It was like accidentally stumbling into the Hunger Games. One second, we were strolling; the next, we were in a full sprint for our lives. We saw our lives flash before our eyes—and it was mostly just bad decisions and brunch.nnAll in all, incredible restaurant, 10/10 service, but I did not sign up for an impromptu episode of Survivor: Nightlife Edition. Would definitely come back, but next time, we’re bringing full body armor.
The food is good, and the location is super close to the University of otago
Emerson's Brewery is an experience that any beer lover visiting Dunedin needs to try out!nnOne of the highlights of our evening was the wonderful service provided by Cam, our waitress. From the moment we walked in, Cam made us feel like we were her top priority. Her knowledge of the beer menu was impressive—she took the time to explain the different styles, offering thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences. Whether we were looking for a light, crisp brew or something with more complexity, Cam's suggestions were spot on, ensuring we had the perfect drinks to match our tastesnnThe Bird Dog Hazy IPA was a highlight, I followed the recommendation and was spot on. Had an amazing night here, unfortunately didn't decide to eat but from the experience here I would love to go again.nnBig thank you to Cam and the Emerson's staff!
