My poor mum had a nusty fall Mitre 10 MEGA Brougham Street car park , i were suffered low blood pressure at same time took by ambulance to public hospital emergency department , after a long wating on wheelchairs , i had seen my mum in great pain , her nose forhead bleeding. I was in a state of distress when a woman wearing a navy blue top approached me in the lobby and informed me with her dreadful facial expression to me that our push chair was obstructing the passageway, which I found surprising given that we had been stationed there for over two hours without any prior concerns being raised, and I inquired as to why this was suddenly an issue, especially considering that we had been relocated to that spot by ambulance staff who had not indicated that it would pose a problem! then she went to a inquiry room , talked about me behand my back with other staff be seen throught glass window , they behavior was appalling - she openly discussed us with other nurses in the inquiries room, making it clear they were talking about us. This kind of gossiping is not only unprofessional, but also hurtful when we were already vulnerable and in pain.nWe were still waiting after all the other patients who arrived with us had left , so I went to the inquiry desk again to ask about the delay. Unfortunately, I was yelled at by a woman who seemed to think she had the right to speak to me that way , and another woman gave me a disgusting side-eye! Grouping together against patients!nI've witnessed a concerning trend in the emergency department, where nurses and inquiry room staff appear to have ample downtime, yet instead of using this opportunity to assist patients, they engage in conversations gossiping about patients. This not only raises concerns about patient care but also highlights a potential misallocation of resources. Finally my mum could not bare the pain while we still waiting , I had to call the taxi taking mum home without seeing the doctors . The nurses and lobby lady inquiry staff in the waiting room really added insult to injury. Their assaults and humiliations were unacceptable and only made our unhealed physical pain even more difficult to bear!!
Very disappointed with the Emergency Department. While the nurses were kind and supportive, the overall experience was frustrating and poorly managed. We were initially seen quickly, but once the scan was done, no one updated us with the results. We were told several times the doctor would be with us “soon,” but kept waiting for over four hours with no explanation.nnEventually, we gave up and left at midnight—tired, hungry, and still without answers and having to work the next morning. The doctor only called after we had left to provide the reviews. We were then told to contact our GP for any follow-up.nnPoor communication, long waits, and lack of respect for patients’ time made this a very disappointing and stressful experience. ED needs serious improvement in how they manage and communicate with patients.
What an absolute joke of a ED. I get it staff shortages etc it’s clear that the overall government does not have the health system as their top 100 priorities. The wait times here are ridiculous. As a Aussie visiting NZ I can see why people avoid this place like a plague. You would never see this in Aus
My 3 yr old son did not want to be there because he seemed well but had a limp and a potential viral joint infection, it had been a tough day because we kept being told he needed tests I wanted to take him home as did he but after 3 hrs I approached the reception staff and said maybe we should leave because I thought there were other sicker kids and it was 10pm my son and I had not eaten and he was in good spirits. One lovely woman said we were next and helped us to get food she treated me like a human listened to me an my stresses as a single mum, how overwhelmed I was she bought my son sandwiches and me a cup of tea and biscuits. This one person made the experience bareable and made me not feel like a free loader. So to her in Chch ED childcare thankyou she made me feel ok for being there when I felt like a fraud! I know our health staff do the best they can with what they have which is not enough.
I can not fault the wonderful care I got from the staff at the ED of Christchurch Hospital! I was seen promptly. And the care and compassion was amazing. A big thank you to Doctor Tori and Nurse Kerry.
