UrbanCentral budget accommodation located on the corner of City Road and Clarendon st in Melbourne, Victoria. We cater for Backpackers, Domestic guests, Families and Groups. We provide free daily breakfast, all day tea, coffee, rice, pasta, and we offer a BBQ meal served in our bar from $1 every single day!

On arrival we were greeted by the super friendly staff who instantly upgraded our double room to a family room free of charge. The room was fresh and clean and had everything we needed. The one issue was the remote control for the TV which was broken and for me a channel hoper gave me a new found respect for the remote I've come accustomed to, this cost one star, sorry. Overall though I would stay here again and recommend you to give it a go if your looking to stay a couple nights in Melbourne.
This hostel is very nice, it has some food available here too if you want to pay for it. The showers are nice and clean and the beds are reasonably comfortable also. I only shared a room with friends here so unsure of how noisy it was with other people. The area wasn't too bad - it had a McDonald's not far away so was convenient too.
Overall clean and well maintained hostel for Australia. Price was reasonable for summer as I paid 33 per night. Facilities were clean and maintained. Beds were comfy. Only issue in the room is there there is only a power point inside the locker, therefore you have to charge all your stuff while its locked. That or unplug the aircon to charge your cell while you and everyone else roast in bed ; Still recommend for 1 or 2 nights
Could use a upgrade in beds and possibly new carpets,they smell like old feet. Otherwise the atmosphere is great with awesome kitchen facilities as well as laundry space. The staff hospitality is 5 star. And don't forget about the bar area
Clean and spacious room I stayed on the 4 beds female dorm and really nice bathroom. The corridors have a strange smell, maybe because there's no windows and the air can't circulate. The kitchen is okay and they have free coffee and tea.
The worst ever hostel. There's a nice way to go about things and the manager definitely doesn't. Wouldn't let me check in because my other friend hadn't arrived yet and cancelled my booking because he's gotta go home and couldn't wait. I couldn't provide proper id after losing my passport and wallet, and after being told it had been handed in and I'll go get it - he said it wasn't his problem. Talk about being understanding !
I really enjoyed my time at Urban central. To be honest i think i stay here about 4 weeks. The staff were mostly pleasant, the common areas were clean and i met some amazing travelers here. The only thing i will say is the bar could use some work! Oh yes and the location is great it is pretty central as the name suggests
I will speak honestly. Urban Central is an average hotel. What makes the most of this hotel is the location because it is true that it is in a great location. As for the staff it is very average too. There is one at the reception in particular which takes a little bit too high for my taste and I am not the only one to think of that. The others make an effort and we do not feel it is annoying for them not to speak well English. But attention to Ludovic the manager is very bad. Then at the cleaning level, it is done every day. But pay attention to the women of households !!!! In total we were robbed $ 1600 driving license and French identity card and vital card that was in a wallet in a closed bag. When we left complaining to the manager of the hotel he clearly told us that if the bag was not in his locked locker and well he could not do anything. It's just amazing to pay $ 210 a week knowing we stay there anyway! And that they are not able to make the necessary to find this maid while every time they happen a thing it speaks that they saw us doing on the cameras !!! It is unacceptable. I do not recommend this hotel. Or hide all your belongings well. A yes I forget, at the level of the kitchens also we were forced to close our food in a bag with a padlock because we were all the time flying! It's just unpleasant !! And we also saw cockroaches in the peanuts to pay in the kitchen !! Disgusting!! The 4 stars that are on this hostel go for location and nothing else.
Now that I'm a top five percent reviewer on Trip Advisor, I'll start with this warm up Google review. If a staff member is rude to me again, my next review will be on Trip Advisor as I get 30k views there. The male staff are OK however the female staff can be rude and condescending. I was told to vacate my room on Thurs as they were doing cleaning so I did. No communication that they had cancelled the cleaning and no need to check out. Wasted my time packing and checking out and I had an Irish female member be rude to me. She was also rude to me on a previous night by being condescending with her verbal tone. Pros - location and weekly price, bar and kitchen OK, lively bar even on a Sunday night, some staff friendly male staff not female staff, discount at McDonalds across the road, football on the big screen, have items such as library, computers and hairdryers. Cons - some staff are rude and condescending, dirty bathrooms with black mould the Indian cleaning lady cleaned the toilets and sinks and did not do the showers at all, hair in showers, food constantly stolen from fridges.
I was only visiting urban for the bar but stumbled across the travel desk. The Irish staff member there was amazingly helpful with zero feeling that I had to buy something. Extremely knowledgeable and willing to go way beyond expectations just to help me with my resume. The bar staff were just as pleasant and the bar area had a great relaxed feel with a great selection of drinks to accompany a game of pool and pinball or two! Will 100% be back!!!
