Thrifty Car and Truck Rental Melbourne

Friendly staff who helped me with a painless booking experience. Staff are humans and would like to see friendliness from customers. If you start off like that then chances are you will have a good experience with any businesses.

Worker was very efficient and helpful at briefly explaining what we needed to know. We were off and away 15 mins after walking in (we booked prior on Vroomvroom). Car was nice and tidy and very fuel efficient. Probably our best car rental experience.

We rented a van for the weekend with thrifty. I can only recommend it. I did not have to wait, the car was clean and new. Everything perfect! 5/5 stars

Reserved a Commodore SV6 to have something interesting to drive to the 12 Apostles. Stated they didn't have those in the fleet anymore because they're phasing them out. But they still offer it online. Tried to get me into a SUV, but didn't want that because there was only two of us doing a day trip. Asked for a Corrola instead, was informed it was more expensive because it's in demand, despite their pricing list showing it as an economy car versus a Commodore. Another agent said to give me a discounted price, but still more expensive than listed online. Sold me insurance even though I prepurchased insurance online. Stated I hadn't paid anything yet, so went ahead with insurance since I was driving out of Melbourne. Guess I was asking too much when I expected to pay the already agreed upon price for a preselected car of my choosing. What was I thinking?

We booked a car 5 days in advance and when we arrived to pick the car up, they had nothing available. We had travelled interstate to attend a funeral out of Melbourne, our day was already stressful. There were four other people ahead of us waiting for cars that hadn’t been returned. Thrifty did not contact us to let us know that they couldn’t fulfil our booking and were altogether unapologetic and offered no alternative other than waiting a few hours by which point, all the other hire places were booked out. A $65 cab fare each way later... Thrifty sucks, zero stars
