My newborn daughter got a fever and started having seizures suddenly one day. I took her to the hospital. I was panicking. The staff in the children emergency room were good but the ladies that looked after us on the ward were FANTASTIC! my daughter had meningitis so it was a very scary time for me. They were so kind and more than willing to explain things and answer any questions I had and I had a lot. They did everything they could to keep me comfy during our 10 day stay and they did all they can to save my little girl. If it wasn't for them I don't think she would be here with us today. I owe the ladies at the gulung ward, my whole life! They saved my daughter. Thank you all so much.
I give the Triage nurse and the ladies at the reception of Emergency props - nice, friendly and even willing to make sure my child got to eat after waiting so long last visit earlier this month. I get it - real emergencies come first, so expected to wait a little.nnMy main issue is that nearly every time we go there, it's a waste of time, and I get no real answers.nWent there in 2012 when she was a baby - was told to see a doctor. I don't even think they did much, at all.nWent there a few years ago for sleep issues nowhere else was open - was given a number to call and told they could fit us in WITHIN THE WEEK, when that place couldn't get us in for several months.nWent earlier this month - waited all day for a doctor who didn't actually look like he wanted to deal with anyone, made me feel horrible for wanting answers, and then decided to leave a needle/device in my daughter's arm for at least 2 hours after taking blood. They even managed not to send the results to the correct medical practice, so now I don't know where the results for the blood tests are. PLUS, there were several ladies I saw who had arrived before my daughter and I, and were still waiting to be treated after we left.nnUnless you're going there for a planned surgery - don't waste your time.nYou're better off going to a medical centre Kirrawee or Caringbah are the best ones nearby and only waiting 2 hours, getting referrals and doing the tests on other days. At least I get answers, and the results go back to the correct Medical Centre.
Had my daughter there in 2006, and they were amazing then. My father is now there for dementia and they are really looking after him so well.nnUnfortunately, there are some unique people who enter the hospital, causing problems and putting patients and staff in danger.nnThere is a designated area for smoking away from the park for a reason, I wish people would use it and not smoke in the park.nnThe park is good with seating and a table and bench seats, I was able to bring my dog and my dad's dog for a visit, which he loved.nnOne of the nurses took a video of our family greeting dad with his dog, and she said it was the loveliest moment and made her day. She sent us the video, which was just so kind of her.nnMy dad is an artist, and he has been able to paint while in care, waiting for aged care accommodation.nnHe has made friends with everyone, and all the nurses love him.nnHe went in as a 2/10, we were so worried about him, he's almost ready to leave but he can't go home, so they are caring for him until we find respite accommodation for him.nnHe has to pay each day now, but it's better than the alternative.nnWe can't thank them enough!
I worked for Sutherland hospital in the security department. About 6 years ago a mental health patient on the dementia ward told me he was going to kill me and held a 30.8 inch knife to my throat. Apparently they lost the key to the kitchen and chocked the door open. He had a history of making weapons from his room. He bashed 2 old blokes who were completely innocent to get me to the ward to kill me. The old bloke died 2 weeks later. I was devastated. I went on working stupid but lasted about 6 months. Was even chastised by my head boss for having too much time off. I was physically sick most days before work. They never even asked if I was alright. All swept under the carpet. Their psychiatrist gave me 3 months off adgustment disorder. I still carry the weight of his death heavily. Now they won’t give me the report and the police who turned up have no event number?????! So they have paid the family off and sacrificed me. Nearly 3 years ago I was king hit 15 times by another psych patient. My solicitors did a poor job and my incapacity to work went from 20 percent to 7 percent. This leaves me being paid 80 percent of my wages. Nil o/y nil super nil lump sum and nil future earnings. I just spent 7 days in a coma because I just can’t cope. So come on Sutherland in charge and show some intestinal fortitude!! Let’s meet and sort this out. My death will also be on your hands.
I don't know if the emergency department has enough staff or not. But my 94-year-old father, who has a history of pneumonia and is suspected of having it again based on the doctor’s diagnosis from the lab results, has been sitting in their cold waiting room for 5 hours with an IV in his hand, waiting to be seen. An hour ago, I asked them how many people were ahead of my father, and they said he was next. However, they have been calling in people who arrived after him. The emergency room is very disorganised.
