It is what it is: a hostel for backpackers. If you're staying in the dormitory style rooms, it's cheaper but funky. Yes, squeaky beds. Yes, not perfectly clean. Yes, noisy at night. I heard the private bedroom accommodations are a step up, and many of them have their own floor to escape noise. For the price and location, not bad overall. The "free wifi" thing is a bummer (250MB doesn't do much), but there are other options nearby at coffeeshops/etc. The bar/restaurant downstairs is nice though. I'd stay again if on a budget.

Very cozy hostel with a bar/restaurant downstairs. They even have bathtubs. Nice old building.

it's a good backpackers, staff are friendly, as are a lot of the guests, it's an interesting, historic building with warmth and character inside and the lounge area has been done in a cosy, ramshackle way. The hot water fluctuates in the showers which can be annoying, but it's difficult to fix the plumbing in these old buildings, so I've been told, but other than that I've got no complaints. It is however a very good way to experience a bit of historic Tasmanian character in a real world kind of way that resonates with the other historic stuff in Hobart

Perfect for what you pay, sound proof rooms and in the heart of town with a bar down stairs. Only weird thing was the toilet was separate from the sink in different rooms

Quite shabby place, but cheap and centrally located. You can find parking on the street but it's only available evening until 8:30AM. Thereafter you have to pay one hour at a time
