I stayed at Hotel Grand Chancellor for two nights during a recent business trip, and overall, it was a pleasant experience with a few areas for improvement.nnThe location of the hotel is fantastic—conveniently situated with stunning views that really enhance the experience, especially if you enjoy a scenic backdrop. Both the room service and reception staff were excellent. They were friendly, efficient, and attentive, making sure all my needs were met during my stay. Their professionalism definitely stood out.nnHowever, I was a bit disappointed to find that bottled water was not complimentary. Given the price of the rooms, it would have been a nice touch to include this as a basic amenity. Also, while my room was comfortable, I found that the washroom facilities felt a bit dated, which took away from the overall experience. The rooms themselves were adequate, but they lacked the modern feel I expected at this price point.nnIn summary, Hotel Grand Chancellor has an amazing location and great service, but there's room for improvement in terms of amenities and room updates. With a few adjustments, it would be an even better choice for business travelers and tourists alike.
Great room and friendly helpful staff. Was there for the night to celebrate my 90th birthday. My time spent there was lovely.the front desk staff sent me up a bottle of wine while at dinner I was surprised by having a dessert with a birthday candle presented after our dinner. This happened again at breakfast and made me feel so special. Before I forget ,the meals were excellent and the breakfast gave lots of choices of delicious food.elizabeth graham
The Grand Chancellor in Hobart was a wonderful stay overall. The room offered a fantastic water view, which was a treat to wake up to the morning. Breakfast was another highlight—plenty of variety and fresh options, making it the perfect way to start the day. The bathroom, while clean and functional, felt a bit dated compared to the rest of the room, but it wasn’t a major drawback. The location was ideal, within easy walking distance to Salamanca Market and some great restaurants, which made exploring Hobart very convenient. Overall, a comfortable and well-situated hotel, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the best of Hobart.
This hotel is very well located. It has great views, is the first stop on the SkyBus coming from the airport, and if you do any tours you'll get picked up directly from the hotel. It's also near a ton of restaurants.nnThe reception and housekeeping staff are great. Very friendly and helpful.nnThe breakfast buffet is standard, bordering on disappointing for a hotel of this caliber. All of the offerings were what you'd expect, not especially hot, fresh, or of noteworthy quality with the exception of the egg station, which you'd expect from a hotel like this. The only premium offering at the buffet was smoked salmon, but it didn't include anything you'd pair with it soft cheese, avocado, capers, etc so it seemed more like an afterthought. Barista coffee wasn't included, and the service wasn't very good. We had to chase someone down to get coffee/tea and not once were our plates cleared away. We only went to this buffet once and spent the rest of our trip visiting Old Wharf for their breakfast. Check out my review on their page if you prioritize breakfast on your holiday.nnThe room was nice, clean, and well-appointed. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and there's a pillow menu if you're a bit choosy. You get plenty of clean towels and each guest gets a bathrobe.nnThe bathroom, however, is terrible. It lacks both form and function. It's very clinical with its hospital-green walls and harsh lights. Get ready for everything to be wet, as the sink and shower are both too small and too shallow to avoid splashing. The shower is, in a word, awful. It's ONLY a rainfall head, has very weak water pressure, and the shower is only half enclosed. The tub hasn't been replaced in, I'd guess 10 years, so even though it's probably clean, it certainly doesn't look it. I really hated this bathroom. I wouldn't stay here again based solely on this.nnThe noise insulation was also an issue. On the first night, we had noisy upstairs neighbors and could hear them stomping around. The bigger issue is how loudly the room doors close, which we could hear all around us at all hours, of course. It gave me a startle each and every time.nnThe room service was also disappointing. It was very expensive, took over an hour, and though the steak was pretty good, the galette that came with it was flavorless. The $30 burger was fast casual quality, and the chips were supermarket frozen and soggy by the time they reached us.nnOthers have mentioned that no complimentary water is provided, however if you bring your own bottle, there is a dispenser at the end of the hallway, so I think this is fine. You do get complimentary tea and biscuits, which is nice.nnOverall, I don't really think this hotel was worth the price point.
A blissful 5 night stay in a beautiful suite with incredible views over the harbour. The fabulous staff were so lovely and deserve a big thank you, and our suite was impeccable….we really didn’t want to leave. Absolutely awesome place to stay in Hobart- we 100% recommend!
