I wasn't so sure about the idea of a "story hotel," but MACq 01 does an excellent job with the idea. Each room is themed after somebody from Tasmania's history, in an interesting way. The rooms are spacious and well-decorated, and if you can get a room with a balcony the views are wonderful! Take the free guided tour of downtown Hobart the hotel offers, you'll learn all sorts of things. The hotel restaurant is so-so, which is fine since it's within walking distance of all the food you could want in Hobart.

This place is insanely luxurious and once in lifetime experience. Staff were amazing and so friendly looking up gin bars for us to visit. Restaurant was worth the price with live local music. Very walkable location to attractions with valet included if you have a car.

Love love love this place. This hotel has it all - personality and sense of history, great design aesthetic, friendly and incredibly thoughtful service, amazing location and excellent value for what you get. We were there for our wedding anniversary and they brought up a complimentary bottle of champagne, as well as wrote us a card which was waiting in our room when we arrived. Can’t recommend highly enough, beats all the five star places I’ve stayed in melb and sydney. Will be back.

BEST BEST BEST Hotel. Superb harbour view. New. Exclusive. All details in room are nice & classy. Well worth the money. No regrets. But the mattress a bit soft. Would be perfect if better supporting mattress.

Didn't stay here, just had a quick drink. Nice place though, with good views of Hobart harbour. (At least, from where we were sitting in the 'bar/lounge' area).
