Appalling Treatment at Seashells Mandurah: A Nightmare Stay Ruined by Hostile ManagementnnOur stay at Seashells in Mandurah was a complete disaster. After a four-hour drive with a toddler and a three-week-old newborn, we arrived at the property at 6 p.m., hoping to unwind. The rooms were clean but basic, offering decent views, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say.nnWe took our two-year-old son to the pool, eager to relax as a family. There were no signs we noticed indicating the pool was closed, all the lights were on, and our access key worked perfectly. This was our first moment out of the house as a family since our newborn’s birth, and our son was having an amazing time in the water while my wife watched from the sidelines. But just a few minutes later, the night manager—who felt more like the local Gestapo—came over, bluntly stating, “The pool is closed; you need to get out.” I responded, pointing out that it was only 6:40 p.m., but apparently, the rule is that if it’s dark, the pool is closed. He repeatedly told us to get out, showing no flexibility or understanding.nnThis is utterly ridiculous. Naturally, we pushed back, matching his tone and attitude, and he informed us that if we didn’t get out immediately, he would call security guards to escort us out of the hotel! I mean, seriously? All of this because a family was enjoying an evening swim?nnOur son, who had been so happy, broke down into a full-blown meltdown as we were forced to abruptly leave the pool. As we were gathering our things and leaving, the night manager followed and pointed out where the pool closure sign was located, which we must have missed while juggling a toddler and a newborn. Instead of taking a more understanding approach, perhaps chatting with us and allowing us a few more minutes to help transition our toddler out of the pool, the manager acted like a storm trooper—rigid and rude. A textbook hospitality approach would have been for the manager to say something like: “Good evening folks, I hope you’re enjoying your time here. I just wanted to let you know that our pool area is closed for safety reasons, as it’s getting dark. I completely understand that you’re having a great time, especially with your little one enjoying the pool. I want to make sure you have a few more minutes to wrap up before we close. I do apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.” This would have shown some basic empathy and professionalism, ensuring guests felt respected and valued rather than harassed. In all our extensive travels across Asia, Africa, America, and Europe, we’ve never encountered such inflexibility and lack of hospitality, The situation could have been handled so much better with just a bit of kindness and understanding.nnAs if that wasn’t enough, this same manager aggressively followed us back to our room, even when we paused to try to settle the toddler he hovered demanding to know our room number like we were second class citizens. His behavior was not only disrespectful, unnecessary but entirely inappropriate—he invaded our personal space, hovering within 2 meters of us, which only heightened our toddler’s anxiety. We were already out of the pool, complying with his demands, yet he continued to treat us with hostility, as if we were criminals. This level of intrusion and intimidation was shocking and completely unacceptable, turning an already bad situation into a distressing ordeal.nnThis entire experience reflects the frustrating nanny state mentality that seems to have taken over Australian hospitality. The rigid enforcement of rules without any flexibility or understanding is far from the world-class service you’d expect in a western society. Instead of feeling relaxed and welcome, we felt unwelcome and harassed.nnWe won’t be returning, and I’d strongly advise anyone considering this property to think twice if you’re looking for a truly relaxing and welcoming environment.
Best nights sleep in ages. Spa bath awesome, too. Pool and jacuzzi have amazing view. Loved every minute
Beautiful place , room was huge and very clean and comfy! Even had washing machine , dryer and dish washer & stove ! Nothing to complain about. Uber eats served us well , we should have stay longer - we will be back for sure ! No regret and top pick of our vacation! Big thank you so much Seashell Mandurah for giving us sure an unexpected amazing stay ! Location was an average as it wasn’t near to any grocery shop , eateries around were pricey and the Japanese restaurant Maneki had bad attitude, food wasn’t even an average! Beef was so stiff , no sake although they had lots of sake bottles display ed to mislead people they sell sake ! Even when I asked the guy staff could even challenged n showed me the sake bottle was emptied! Very bad attitude and my first n last ! So rude to the max !
We stayed for two nights to attend our Son's wedding, which was also a busy time during Crab Fest weekend in March, and had such a great time in this resort.nnWe were welcomed like old friends even though we had never been before.nnAll of the staff were friendly and their level customer service was brilliant. They were obviously part of a team that was happy in their work which really made our guest experience such a delight.nnWe loved it so much that it was sad to leave when our short holiday was finished.nnThis the only place you should stay when you come to Mandurah.nnThanks again for making our stay so special.
It's been 15years since were last there and we walked into the room and it was like it had never changed, very dated, however it was very clean. Rececption staff were very efficient and welcoming, and Sea Shells is in a great location.
