Story

Ringwood Private Hospital has been providing high quality care since opening in 1973. We recognise the integral and important role we play as part of Melbourne’s outer-eastern community. This is reflected in the excellent support programs we offer our patients and referring doctors.

Our operating suites are equipped to perform major and minor procedures, in a diverse range of specialties. The hospital has a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit, which is recognised by health professionals for its quality care.

A 74 bed medical, surgical and oncology facility, Ringwood Private Hospital specialises in the specific treatment of patients with a cancer diagnosis, providing multiple treatment modalities on site, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In conjunction with Radiation Oncology Victoria, the hospital provides the only private radiotherapy facilities in the eastern suburbs. Patients visiting Melbourne and requiring short-term treatments are also welcome.

My mother in law was transferred to Ringwood Private Hospital from Knox Private. It was an inappropriate transfer for a woman with advanced dementia. She got appalling care from very non caring staff. The catering staff just left her menu cards to be completed, nurses didn’t help, she cannot read or write or feed herself, she was left soaking wet for hours, completely unchecked. It was utterly appalling. I hope those people find themselves in that position one day. Helpless and unable to ask for help. My father in law had to provide all her care and luckily was able to advocate for her. How dare they accept her when they couldn’t care for her. The only bright light was the duty doctor who actually showed care and compassion as well as professional duty. What a horrible horrible place. As a result of this stay her carers have been directed to not allow a transfer to any healthscope hospitals in the future.
My mother has top hospital cover, recently transferred from Knox Private. What has happened to the basics of nursing care???nMy mother has dementia was encouraged to sit in a chair, dressed in light clothing on a very cold day. , single blanket ,no heating, no sox.nUpon visitation her hands were freezing, complaining of being cold. Alerted nurse when I could find one. Suggested more blankets etc This scenario repeated itself three days in a row!nUnsmiling nurses add to this dismal experience. . Nurses on the floor need to be atune to the basics of care.nCommunication for carers non exsistent.nBroken health system even those with private cover.
As it the second anniversary of my husband’s death approaches, the family and I continue to feel enormous regret that we did not have him moved to another facility. Ringwood Private is shabby and the care suboptimal: blood on his sheets, food left where he couldn’t reach it, nursing staff who kept what I politely call a very low profile. On more tha one occasion we had to tell them which room he was in. We saw no evidence of continuity of care and felt our observations about his deteriorating condition were ignored.He had no voice and neither did we. Admitted for dehydration on one Friday only to die on the the next. It was a horrible experience and he deserved so very much better.
What a beautiful bunch of staff and doctors.. a big thank you to all the staff who took all the time in the world for my daughter, made her feel safe and that she was going to be ok..
Was there for 9 days and have nothing but praise for all of the staff; nurses, student nurses, pharmacists, kitchen staff, cleaners and anyone I might have forgotten. As an ex nurse I know how hard and busy it can be but I never felt that anything was a bother, was never rushed and there were plenty of laughs.
