Staff were great, location is great, facilities such as swimming pool, spa, and sauna were great. Gym is too small. Room is average, the heating feature in my room wasn't working so it was cold in the night. There were way more rooms than parking spot so we didn't use our car in the night just in case parking spots become unavailable when we come back, so didn't get to explore a lot in Canberra during our stay. Also didn't know that we had to pay extra for overnight parking. I thought this was a given as this is a 4 star hotel.
Our stay at Novotel at Novotel Canberra was not a good experience due to the following;n1. Rooms are advertised as aircon during available, but that’s not true. Temperature such as 23° automatically turns to heating rather than cooling tried to call reception no one picked up. Therefore it’s either put at 18-21° to be cool otherwise it become heat.nn2. Indoor pool was advertised as heated. It was not heated and a lot of others also agreed.nn3. Pool area was dirty. Used towels everywhere, used towel baskets overflowing, rubbish and glasses on tables, no clean towels available and people bringing glass inside the spa and pool making it really unsafe.nn4. Parking is a nightmare here. Even though you have to pay for the day, there’s extremely limited parking spots making it hard to go in and out freely.nn5. Upon checkout the lady behind the reception stood there biting her nails instead of serving customers and when she did she didn’t even sanitise her hands great way to spread germs!nn6. Breakfast buffet was extremely limited in choices, toaster not working and burning the toasts, staff are unapproachable and unfriendly extremely arrogant and rude at night time when we tried to see if we could eat there. Also they don’t tell you there is a public holiday surcharge.nn7. Front foyer does not smell good either. You don’t get that nice clean hotel smell/vibe from this hotel
The Novotel is very conveniently located in the centre of Canberra. The public areas are nice and must have been fairly recently refreshed however the rooms and corridors were very dated. There were a lot of stains on the carpets in the corridors and the design of the rooms was quite bizarre. The bathroom was partly open plan with a glass partition to the bedroom- which was very badly positioned close to the bed. In the middle of the night getting up for the loo I couldn't see it and bashed my face into it. It is quite dangerous.nThe parking is frustrating too. It's expensive and there's not enough parking for the hotel so it's first come first served.- even if you've paid for parking - if you can't get in you have to speak to reception to get it removed from your bill.nOverall a disappointing experience - apart from location wouldn't recommend. Better / nicer options slightly further out on Northbourne Avenue. I understand from the new manager who was very helpful that it's going to be refurbished at some point. Maybe after that it will be much better.
Checked in after a long day with two children under 8 years old. Parked the car out the front only to be informed that the car park was full so I had to drive my car to the public car park. Then a woman finished the booking , not friendly what so ever asked for credit card, said something about security bond I was too tired to even hear her. Informed no porter service. Dragged the luggage and children up to the forth floor. Had to leave them by themselves. Daylight savings kicked in so we were all starving to be informed via phone no more room service, no other option provided. Eventually get to shower the children and no hot water. Honestly for a four star hotel that you pay for we did not receive any type of service whatsoever and hot water would’ve been great. Regret staying here even as a gold member of Accor Hotels disappointing is an understatement.
Good thing about the hotel is it's locationnVery old and inside is extremely old. Almost at a motel level.nAdding to the above, there are only a limited number of parking spots available. Otherwise you are by your own to find a spot which is what happened to is with kids and a full car.
