We booked 2 rooms for our family. We were told they would be adjoining. When we got there we were told that they were a few rooms apart. We got upgraded rooms however it was useless as we were not able to all stay together. We ended up just booking one room with a sofa and put a cot in there. We were given free parking however parking was only subject to availability. Phone was broken in our room so we were not able to get room service. There were no rubbish bins in the room only recycling bins. There was also no toilet brush. There was no bedding for the sofa nor were there enough pillows or towels. There were also no towels in the swimming pool. The rooms were very dated. Buffet was amazing. We loved it! The pool was also lots of fun with the kids. Sauna was out of order though. I was really looking forward to that! Parking was a bit of a nightmare. We were lucky that we got a spot under the Novotel but we heard others complaining. We got to breakfast quite early but there were about 50 people lined up waiting when we left!
Hotel is really well located and easy to get around. Rooms were clean and pool was great for children. All staff were lovely and really friendly. We stayed during the July school holidays, so hotel was packed. This meant full car park, so had to park in other places which cost more. Was hard to get staff to help eg - was not able to get hotel staff on the phone to ask questions or request things like linen or towels, had to psychically go down to reception to speak with front desk to get anything not a massive issue but a pain when you have children. Considering the busyness of the hotel, I would have expected more staff to be rostered on. Often had to wait at reception to speak to someone, because there were so many people needing help. Staff handled it really well, but it most likely could have been dealt with better, if more staff were available. Overall a good stay, management just need to work on their staff rostering and availability of staff for hotel guests.
The hotel was dated but very clean & comfortable rooms. The staff were friendly and the kids enjoyed the pool. If you are driving i would advise to pick another hotel with plenty of parking. There are only 78 spots for over 250 rooms. We stayed there for 3 nights and was hard to get a car spot after 4 pm especially after paying $32 a night. The service at the restaurant was inconsistent. We wanted to dine in on a Sun evening 6th of July at 7 pm. We were told the place is booked out although it was nearly empty. It seems they are keen to shut and not serving any customers. However Breakfast service was good before 7:30 am.
I’ve stayed at Novotel Canberra a few times over the years, but this was by far the worst experience to date. I will not be returning.nnParking is a nightmare — be prepared to drive around for over an hour and still end up walking a mile just to get back to the hotel. Absolutely no assistance offered with bags, even after the long walk.nnThe front desk staff were rude, disinterested, and completely unprofessional. There was no sense of hospitality or care. When I raised concerns, they were dismissive and unhelpful.nnOur room was not set up as requested — I had specifically booked for two beds, but only one was provided. Even worse, the room was missing basic amenities and felt like it hadn’t been properly cleaned.nnThe pool area was also appalling — no clean towels available, dirty towels and laundry were left strewn everywhere, and old food trays were left in the corridors for hours. Also sauna not functioning.nnIt’s incredibly disappointing to see the standard at this hotel decline so drastically. Novotel Canberra has gone from a reliable choice to a place I would actively warn others to avoid.nnDo yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.
We had a terrible experience at the restaurant for my sisters birthday. The food took over an hour, with even kids meals taking 55 minutes. Then, to make matters worse many of our meals were cold! I had medium rare cutlets, my husband the steak and both were cold. A neighbouring table got their meals so late one of which was also served cold they were still eating as the restaurant closed. In addition to this, the hotel is just a bit meh, the carpet and rooms need a do-over. The lifts are tiny. We were charged completely without knowing for them to service the rooms. Oh and the parking is terrible! My elderly parents had to park 10 min away as the terrifying parking was full. On the plus side...good location. Pool is good, but too small for a hotel that size. I'll never stay here again.. really disappointing.
