Went for a 4 day stay in Novotel Canberra, I'm a wheelchair user requiring the use of an hoist as I cannot transfer manually. The bed in the accessible room were not accessible as it was a platform bed, limiting the reach of the hoist. Picture on the website of the accessible room shows a ensemble bed, but we did NOT get an ensemble bed. We needed an ensemble bed as that would've made transfers more easier, We had trouble transferring using the hoist and it required a lot more energy. The rest of the room was quite accessible though, although seemed a bit dated and was a little bit cramped up, but other than that, the room was fine, Restaurant had a limited menu but breakfast buffet was good.
We found all our interactions with hotel staff to be very courteous and efficient. The room was very comfortable, with generous seating and a large desk and ergonomic office chair, situated quite a distance away from the bed which was useful during the evening when I wanted to sleep and my husband had some work to catch up on. I loved the indoor pool - it was large and long enough to do a few laps in! There was heaps of natural light. There was also a sauna and a separate jacuzzi as well. And although I didn't use the gym, it looked far more comfortable than many hotel gyms are these days - again, with lots of natural light and good room between machines. The hotel breakfast was below average, unfortunately. I'm glad we didn't add that meal onto our booking, as that would have been a waste. We had one dinner in the restaurant which wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. I'd stay again, but I'd give the restaurant a total miss. The bar did have a small but good selection of Australian gins to try, and lots of comfy leather couches to settle on with a drink or two.
The staff were very good. The location was great, but the pictures are misleading, we had a room with 2 double beds and 1 chair to sit in. The kitchenette was a kettle, not even a microwave. There is no cutlery other than tea spoons and is overall very outdated.
The hotel is centrally located on Northbourne Avenue, and accessible by bus and tram.nOur room was spacious, clean, well supplied with amenities.nWe enjoyed our buffet breakfast.nWe were pleased with the service. Anton was welcoming, helpful, accommodating, efficient. He ensured that we collected our tickets to the Pompeii exhibition.nWe think the hotel's Pompeii Exhibition Package was good value.
Went to First Edition restaurant. It was a bit dated and needed a deep clean. Unfortunately, Novotel brand use to mean high class. These days, it's average at best. Meals were ok, but I wouldn't recommend it or go back
