I am deeply disappointed and have been traumatised by my stay at the Avenue.nMy privacy as violated and I was left feeling terrified when my room was accessed by a random man while I was relaxing in my bedroom suite not dressed to recieve guests.nThe man rang the doorbell twice in quick succession within 3 seconds and imediately accessed our hotel door.nThe moment I heard that door open my stomach dropped and i leaped to my bedroom door for protection and yelled 'we're in here' to which the man replied 'just checking' and shut the door!nI was shaking, I could not believe this just happened!nMy husband immediately ran to confront the man but he had dissappeared.nMy husband rang the front desk immediately to ask who had accessed our room without our consent.nWe were told we had requested maintainace last night to which we had not, we had checked in 3hrs previous.nWhen we checked in we were told the room was 100% ready.nNo communication, no phone call and the man didn't even wait for us to answer the door.nThrough the back and forth of phonecalls with the front desk we were told this access method was their hotel procedure and that they believed the room to be 100% vacant! We had checked in 3hrs previous and we were 100% in there!!!!!!!nI was still shaking 30mis later and told my husband i felt unsafe staying there and we needed to leave! I felt so scared at this stage and management were not giving me any confidence this would not happen again.n2days later I am still shaking writing this I will never be able to stay at this hotel again.nI have never felt so scared or unsafe at a hotel in my life. I warn other women to book somewhere else!!!!nThis was actually the 2nd time an incident like this at this hotel has happened to us. The 1st a strange man was in our hotel room when we returned 'fixing our spa' which we never requested maintainance as worked perfectly fine when we used it 1h before.nNo communication, no phone call to notify us and a strange man accessing our room without notification or our approval.nAvenue, you need to re-write your procedures. This is completely un-acceptable for a hotel!!!nI can only guess how many other people have similar stories to tell that don't post it up...
We got here late on a Thursday night expecting no room and this place looked amazing. We found one singular spot for us and we got into our room. The bathroom was pretty good but the shower pressure was slightly low. The beds were extremely comfy and the room was clean. We hadn’t gotten dinner yet and it was 9:50 we were just in time for the restaurant order. The food came to us straight away and tasted better than a restaurant meal. Amazing hotel.
Booked for a spur of the moment visit to Canberra based on ease of access on a main thoroughfare, and on price. Very comfortable beds - although there was no place to plug in my phone charger next to the bed except by unplugging the clock. We had two rooms, and both were upgraded to 1 bedroom apartments, which was nice - although the layout for apartment 301 was rather odd. Underground parking was free.
Returned to The Avenue a few years after being a regular. They haven't missed a beat! Room is immaculate, super comfortable beds, great pillows, great amenities and outstanding service. Add to this the great food, prompt room service and friendly staff and I'd rate The Avenue as the best in Canberra and best value.
Location is great. Room size one bedroom is really good. That's where it ends. We had ripped bed sheets that were sewn up, one drinking glass between two, a coffee machine but no pods, electrical cables strewn on the floor from the tv equipment, showers which leak over the outside floor due to poor shower stall fittings but worse was our previous stay when cleaners left our door open after doing a clean while we were out.
