Centrally located with canberra center just 5 minutes walking distance. The rooms are pretty standard. Bathroom could use a good clean and carpet a thorough vacuum. Beds and pillows are comfy.nnBreakfast buffet is ok with adequate selection. Bacon is cold, rice is overheated, selection of eggs and barista coffee is a bonus. Shed from the breakfast team is outstanding, the only team member during breakfast who is genuinely looking after guests. Jasmine at check in was very helpful and informative.
Crowne Plaza Canberra – A Mixed Bag of Comfort and QuirksnnThe Crowne Plaza Canberra offers a solid location advantage—just a pleasant 1 km stroll to the CBD—and the staff were consistently wonderful: friendly, accommodating, and genuinely eager to help. Their warmth was a highlight of our stay.nnHowever, the property itself shows signs of wear, and while I understand it’s slated for redevelopment, the pricing remains on par with other Crowne Plazas, which raises expectations.nnDining was a letdown. Breakfast options were limited to a $40 buffet or room service with a $5 delivery fee. We opted for room service, only to receive lukewarm meals that barely passed muster. Dinner options nearby were scarce unless you were willing to venture at least a kilometre away—ironic, given the proximity to the casino.nnRoom 551 had its quirks: shower controls were temperamental, with separate hot and cold taps that required a delicate dance to avoid freezing or scalding. Pressure was just adequate. Housekeeping removed used facecloths but didn’t replace them, prompting a call to the front desk. The bathroom lacked a sink plug, and the retractable clothesline over the tub had been removed—small things, but they added up.nnWiFi was mostly reliable, which was a relief.nnOverall, the stay was comfortable enough thanks to the staff and location, but the facilities and dining experience didn’t quite justify the price tag. With some attention to detail and the promised redevelopment, this property could shine again.
Firstly, the hotel itself is nice and stylish. It’s very convenient to the city and within walking distance of most places. The rooms were clean and good for the price — so two stars for all that.nnHowever, I’m taking away three stars because of the morning buffet — honestly, the food was the worst part. The staff were not friendly or welcoming. They seemed busy cleaning but not at all helpful!nnAs for the food, it was below average. The staff at the egg station didn’t even know what an omelette was! When I asked for one, they said they didn’t know what that meant and just walked away. The poached egg was watery, the grilled tomato undercooked, and the mushrooms smelled bad. The coffee was served cold even though I asked for it extra hot, and the hot chocolate tasted very bland. Totally not worth it.nnIf you’re staying at this hotel, I’d suggest skipping the breakfast — there are plenty of great options just a couple of minutes away. Apart from the breakfast, everything else went well. The receptionist and check-in process were smooth and professional.
The rooms are clean but outdated, many with great views of Glebe Park. The location is excellent—just a short walk to Canberra Centre, restaurants, and major attractions. Staff are friendly and professional, and the breakfast buffet is a highlight with plenty of variety. While some areas could use a refresh, overall it provides solid value for both business and leisure travelers.
Stay only as last resort, rooms dated and poorly furnished. Only one sheet on bedding and that is normal practice an OH&S issue I would have thought Disgusting really !nCheck out/ in process very slow staff shortages nBreakfast food quality not bad however seating procedures not understood by all staff and w/e staff not up to standard.nSauna not working correctly turns off every 5 minutes or so nChange and shower rooms in gym are only toilets.
