History

Built by Theiss Constructions at a cost of $65m, Hisense Arena was completed in 2000. The venue extended Melbourne Park and its capacity to handle ever increasing tennis crowds, whilst also satisfying demand for another flexible multi purpose venue. This state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor facility can host a variety of sports, including basketball, tennis, boxing, gymnastics, dancesports and cycling in its own velodrome. A world class entertainment venue, Hisense Arena also holds an eclectic range of music concerts, family orientated performances, seminars and dance parties.

Parking is available at Yarra Park (MCG) on most event days or at the Melbourne Park carpark on Olympic Boulevard (via Entrance D). See https://prebook.mopt.vic.gov.au/ for details and prebooking (recommended).

I was lucky enough to be here for the AO Men’s final day. Only managed to get the ground pass, but that was enough to experience the great atmosphere and fantastic facilities. Lots of places to enjoy the match with any size group of friends with a great choice of food and drinks. Amazing organisation.
Attended the Australian Open and this venue is awesome. The grounds are well planned with the comfort of the spectator in mind. There are many amenities inside and outside the arenas. There are plenty of food and beverages available throughout the grounds.
I visited Melbourne Park in January 2026 for the Australian Open and grabbed a $35 ground pass for the women’s final. I headed in by train, got off at Richmond Station and walked to the gates in about ten minutes. There are also trams running from the city and the south east straight to the precinct, so transport is a breeze.nnThe whole park was completely decked out. There were sponsor pop ups everywhere with little games, activities and freebies, plus heaps of merch stalls and interactive spaces. The food court was one of my favourite parts with so many options to choose from and a massive seating area with bean bags where you could sit back and watch the tennis on the big screens. Even though it was raining the day I went, I still loved wandering around and exploring before finding my friends huddled under an umbrella near one of the larger screens.nnThere were plenty of bean bags, couches and high bar tables set up around the grounds, but undercover areas were definitely limited, which wasn’t ideal on a rainy finals day. That said, there were quite a few indoor activations to duck into. I checked out the Mecca and Chemist Warehouse pop ups, both of which had special tennis discounts and felt like fun little escapes from the weather.nnI think the Open is such a great day out for any age group, especially earlier in the tournament when you can wander between courts and catch multiple matches live. Because I went for the final, most of the focus was on the big game being broadcast everywhere, but honestly, watching it surrounded by thousands of people still created an incredible atmosphere. The energy across the whole precinct was high.nnI’m already keen to go back. Melbourne Park knows how to host a major event, and if the Australian Open is anything to go by, I’d love to see what else they put on there throughout the year.
Another great year at the AO26. But I have to say, there were tooooooo mannnnyyyyyy people on this day and it made it crazy walking around in the heat and not being able to find anywhere to sit. I believe there has to be a limit on the attendance at the event. IT WAS CRAZY.
Great venue done by Australia Open! Access to many stadiums, huge outdoors courts with entertainment, food and themes feeling like a square with screens and fans cheering all around. Can’t ask for more.
