The new David Jones is nothing short of disappointment. The ladies lingerie change rooms had ripped carpet, smelt bad and had no staff member to assist. There’s very little in any department including staff. The layout is bad, so much space wasted and poorly designed in general. The old David Jones was better. Wollongong now has a terrible David Jones and Target and Shellharbour has a terrible Myer. People will need to go to Sydney for decent shopping.

The new David Jones in Wollongong reminds me of an apocalyptic combination of “the Hunger Games”; the futuristic series "3% and the sci-fi movie the “Cube”; a scenario where everyone is fighting for their lives but only few survive... I had decided to see whether the new David Jones was the delight that all the advertising over the past 2 years had promised it would be (I didn't have much faith but I did have hope !).The over crowded food hall was missing the former DJ's fabulous chocolate shop . It failed to impress but at least I could see where I was going; a feat that becomes impossible on any other shopping level ! This shop is the most autism unfriendly environment I have EVER been in so anyone with friends and family on the spectrum need to give this place a miss. Foolishly I ventured further only to find myself overwhelmed or possibly underwhelmed by the baffling combination of blazing "deer in the headlights" lighting and sinister shadowed corners ,oddly reminiscent of a cheap fairground “House of Horrors (An effect escalated by the hordes of dazed and confused shoppers stumbling blindly around like zombies). I found the escalator by accident and clambered aboard wondering if I had died and failed to qualify for the “Good Place” ! Little did I know the hell that awaited me in women’s fashion ! I have never felt more alien and more bewildered as I stood breathless and lost in a sea of confusing obscurity... It was as if I had entered a horror themed maze designed by some deranged and psychopathic deity with a seething ill will to all humanity! My eye balls were singed by the strips of overly bright light careering over the ceiling like a discarded set from Star-Trek movie. All around me strange corners constructed out of transparent red Perspex or mirrored glass ,reflecting endless racks of women's clothing, extended in all directions promising oblivion. These unnecessary obstacles blocked my every attempt to actually see where I was going, making any attempt to gather my bearings or navigate my way out impossible (and quite possibly this is their dark purpose ) .In minutes I lost both my sense of direction and my companion ! In a state of panic I grabbed some hapless employees arm and whispered "Help me. I'm trapped !"; she whispered "Me too! Which is why I'm hovering near the exit! I can't find my way around either ! "...Suddenly she gave me a little push towards a rectangle of blinding light and I staggered out into a surreal space where an unmanned piano played pre-recorded Christmas Carols totally out of sync with a women's choir warbling nearby .I will not return ! I can't imagine anyone enjoying shopping here unless they actually want to lose either their mind or their partner or possibly their children in the melee .Anyone with claustrophobia, visual impairment, mobility issues, anxiety or autism spectrum conditions should strictly avoid the place !
