Dandenong Magistrates' Court

Story

The Former Melbourne Magistrates' Court was the original home of Melbourne's City Court and District Court, and also housed an emergency court. The French Romanesque building is located on the corner of La Trobe and Russell streets in the Melbourne city centre.HistoryIt was opened on 20 January 1914, and served the City for 81 years, before a new Magistrates' Court building was opened on William Street in 1995.Notable trials conducted at the court include that of Squizzy TaylorRMITThe Former Melbourne Magistrates' Court became part of the neighbouring City campus of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1997, and is officially known as RMIT Building 20 (Former Melbourne Magistrates' Court). RMIT also acquired the Former City Watch-house, located next to the Court, and together they form Building 20. The Court building is currently used for lectures and moot courts, and houses offices for RMIT's administration and Chancellery. The Watch-house building is currently used as a museum.ArchitectureA notable feature of the District Court is the historic wooden canopy located over the seat upon which the Magistrate sits in the main courtroom. The canopy was taken from old Supreme Court which had originally been located at the site. At the corner of Latrobe Street and Russell Street, in the former main entrance, there are numerous holes in the bricks that were caused by shrapnel from the Russell Street Bombing that can still be seen today.

Judges are terribly hard on anyone appearing at dandenong magistrates court. If your innocent or guilty it makes no difference, the judge doesnt listen anyway.ngoodluck you will need it
Always a nice long wait time here!nMany & multiple cases per day !nMake sure you take the day off ! If working …
Received text message saying that the check in time is 9.30am. I arrived the court on time but they let me waited until 4pm. This is very stressful and suffering. I hope the system can be designed better because this is just wasting everyone’s time. Slightly improvement on the system can save everyone hours and hours
I am extremely disappointed by the level of service provided by the staff. The staff provided incorrect information to the plaintiff resulting in a no show. If I gave the same level of service to my clients I would be without a job. There is no apology given. System lacks accountability and transparency. Victorian courts at its best!
Where the legal system hands out ivo’s like it’s candy ! Men seem to get the short end of the stick here in the Wild West. When a woman accuses a man , the man has to jump through all manor of obstacles …….nYou can participate in the legal system as long as you have $500/hr to pay a lawyer!nGood luck if you’re earning $45/hr andnAnMortgage you will see justice only when you win tatts lotto or sell the home you live in if you’re lucky enough! And the judge has the hoostpa to ask why haven’t you perused the case! Like everyone can earn $500/hr to pay lawyers!nThe system is rigged and Most Definitely against protecting families but is more inclined to separate families.
