Custoner service staff are very very very dodgy. I am totally disgusted at how they operate. You treat your customers like idiots. 
We had a quote, you should honorable the quote and not add things. 
Avoid -  Avoid - Avoid -Avoid -Avoid -Avoid
The staff are incompetent and dodgy and very very unhelpful. 
Very very unimpressed, my wife got a quote and was taking care of the rental until my son took I'll and because I was the main driver we swapped so she took care of our son. 
When I went to the counter the consultant decided to add all the extras and act like that is what my wife had chosen. I had no idea until after the fact when my wife found that our online quote/ booking went from $360 up to $500 +. 
Watch out for Avis as they will up the price when you are distracted. 
When we questioned why the price went up they couldn't explain it or reduce it. Kept saying that our computers work it out. 
We are now in Byron bay and booked through Budget car hire, the quote was spot on and they guy couldn't believe what happened in Hobart saying that sort of thing gives the car hire industry a bad name.
Go budget guys, much better service and straight forward.

This was the worst experience I have had trying to pick up a rental car. There were about 8 people with pre-booked cars attempting to pick up their cars. Not a single vehicle was available and waiting times ranged from 30 mins to several hours. The staff were not at all helpful and seemed to find the situation amusing. Fortunately Europcar had a vehicle available instead and their staff were excellent

Do not rent car from Avis Australia. 

Took a car in Hobart that booked through Expedia for Midsize SUV Toyota RAV4 or similar at price of $328 including Tax and fee.

First they provided me Mitsubishi ASX – Compact Small SUV,  and told me this is midsize SUV, I totally can not put in my bags, then they ask me paid A$10 per day to upgrade to RAV4!!!  At end they charged me A$450.

Liars and cheaters, Avis.

When I was returning my car, the staff were chatting with others and made me stand beside for minutes.  Other service are ok.

Do not rent from Avis Australia. Took a car in Hobart from these guys and booked through Expedia for a price of $126, they charged me $606, with no prior agreement or informing me (shows up on my credit card a week after I return the car).

When I complained with Avis, no reply which seems standard looking at this thread so I raised a complaint with Expedia.

They then lie to Expedia that I agreed to an upgrade which cost more per day (143 excl additional charges) than my entire booking amount (126). Let me guarantee that I never did agree and have an upgrade and had 3 other people standing with me at the counter who can corroborate.

Liars and cheaters, Avis.

Save your holiday and rent from someone else.
