The Yacht Chinese Restaurant in Avondale used to be much busier, often packed with Chinese tour groups enjoying their meals. While the crowds may have thinned, the restaurant still offers a decent experience, particularly for yum cha lovers, though it’s not without its shortcomings.nnThe yum cha here is good and meets expectations. The variety of dim sum on offer is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant of this caliber, and the flavors are satisfying. The dishes, such as the har gow shrimp dumplings and siu mai pork dumplings, are well-prepared. However, while the quality is there, I found that the pricing leans toward the higher side, making it not the most affordable option for regular dining.nnOne thing that stood out during my recent visit was the lean pork congee with century egg . Traditionally, this dish is served with fried dough sticks on the side, adding that nice crunchy texture to complement the smooth congee. However, when we ordered it, we noticed that the dough sticks were missing. When we inquired about it, the waitress informed us that they simply don’t include them. It seemed a bit unusual, and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a cost-saving measure. Congee without feels incomplete, so that was a bit of a letdown.nnOverall, the dining experience was enjoyable, though not exceptional. The restaurant does a good job of maintaining its standards, but small details like missing traditional elements can impact the experience. Since I live quite far away, it’s hard to justify returning frequently, especially with the slightly higher prices.nnIf you’re in the area and craving some decent yum cha, The Yacht is a solid option, though be prepared for a slightly higher bill than expected.
If you do not look asian don’t bother going here. I went up to the counter and this man just ignored me I yelled and knocked on the bench and he kept looking at his phone. He had one earbud in so obviously he can hear me. I gave up and just went and sat at a table and still no one came to ask me but as soon as my husband walked in he is all smiley and came to our table. My husband is asian and I am not. I was so pissed off I didn’t want to waste money eating here.nSo if you’re non asian don’t go here they will ignore you on purpose. Even you don’t speak English at least just use your hands to communicate or something smhnnWorst customer service ever and got discriminated
This is ridiculous. For $9.30 their premium dish you would think you are getting premium quality…that is not the case. The shown image is all just fat no meat which is very disappointing. We couldn’t even eat half of that dish. Told the workers and responded with “don’t tell me, tell the manager” “that’s how the batch is/that’s how it was ordered from the supplier” “don’t order it next time” and it made us feel like we were in the wrong when we are the ones paying. They then proceeded like nothing happened. I expected a lot more and they did not exceed my expectations. I do not recommend.
Very nice Chinese food!! nGood service from our friendly waitress.nRobbie the manager was also very friendly.nWe ordered four courses. The stand-out course being the Braised Lamb with Ginger and Spring Onions on a Hot Plate. nTheir signature Pork Dish was also nice.nWe look forward to dining here again soon!!
Had lunch first time here on Monday. What a pathetic service! No one was welcoming and even showing us a table. Also, Staff hardly spoke English. Unlike other yum cha places, we had to fill out an order form and hand it to the counter. didn't know that. Should have run out of the run-down restaurant. We were too venturous and hopeful that their food would be great. But they served lukewarm, dried, and flavour lacking dim sum dishes. It was a total disaster. Never go back.
