Reviews
I thought the room was well appointed, but a little small and more expensive than I am use to. we where looking forward to a nice bath after dinner but decided not to after seeing mold and hair in the bath and shaving ruminants in the sink. The service was great, staff were very friendly and a delight . all in all would expect more from the room for the cost
The room was a good size and has all facility, other than no temperature control in the room. A fan was placed in the room which made it comfortable.nService was good and the location is great, short walk to town centre and a number of different restaurants, cafes is a short walking distance form hotel. Would stay here again.
The hotel I usually stay at when visiting Dunedin was booked out,. As Scenic was the same distance to town and price, and had good reviews, I picked it as an alternative option.nnHowever, there were a number of issues which show a lack of care and effort on the part of the hotel.nnParking is $25 a night, which is overpriced compared to other options in town. When busy they also insist on valet parking - which some people may like, however I am not comfortable with all staff having access to my car at any time, as well as having to call down and wait every time I wanted to go out, or needed to meet a client.nnThe hotel breakfast was possibly the worse I have ever had - the pancakes were somehow both crunchy and chewy. The bacon was so solid it was impossible to chew and the potato hash had a similar appearance and taste to playdoh. I managed one bite of each before asking for a refund.nnThe room itself was very dated and small. The bathroom in particular was very dated, there were scratches in the sink and cracks in the rim of the bathtub, soap scum build up in the shower and mold on the baseboards. There was also a fine layer of dust on the waterglasses and coasters in the bathroom - presumably, they are not changed between guests if they appear unused. The magnifying mirror was coming away from the wall and had a layer of dust and finger prints on it. There were also chips in the paints behind it that had simply had a coat of paint slapped over them instead of someone taking the time to properly fill, sand and repaint them.nnThe corners of the bathroom and behind the door had not been vacuumed or mopped. The vents were absolutely thick with dust. When ringing out a wash cloth, I also noted that it foamed up, suggesting that it still had an excess of laundry detergent in it - not something you want to put directly on your skin.nnThe room was very small, the beside clock had the incorrect time set, the light and power switches were all dusty on top. Under the bed was filthy with dust, feathers and food wrappers. The wine glasses in the top drawer were also dusty and had finger prints on them.nnThe bins did not have liners - which I understand may be an environmental measure, but frankly just seems unhygienic, especially in a bathroom where sanitary items are in use.nnThe bed was fairly comfortable, but carelessly made without tight corners or pillows case fully pulled over.nnThese issues may seem minor and nitpicking, but combined with the knowledge I could have had a far larger, cleaner and more modern room for the same cost, meant it was a very disappointing stay. I would not book again or recommend the hotel to others
Seem to have got a disabled room. Bigger than most, but horrible stained carpet. The bathroom has a dimpled vinyl floor which is also grubby, glad I have my flip flops as I wouldn’t want to step on it with bare feet. Shower big enough for a wheelchair but with a grotty plastic curtain that only serves to shut out the light.nBed comfy and clean. Two huge windows with “hush glass”. Double glazing would have been better, but heavy curtains do help with the traffic noise. Breakfast good but no egg station.nWon’t be sorry to check out tomorrow.
We had an excellent, really enjoyable stay in your hotel. Lovely rooms and service, and the location is perfect.nnOur only gripe was with the parking, we paid $50 for two days/nights parking, we really felt that was quite steep and parking should be included in the charge for the room rather than having to pay extra for it. On top of the payment we had a terrible experience with the parking. Carpark was full after we had just paid our $50, then had to drive round and get the valet to sort it. It felt like we had a similar headache every time we needed to park the car. That is the only thing that we felt needed any improvement.
