We have stayed before and enjoy this hotel as it is quiet, the rooms are a good size but the bedroom 296 this time was terrible, other times they have been ever so comfy.nThe shower over the bath is just to small. It was a great price at $135.00 but then you pay $25.00 for parking so from now on I think we will shop around.
The hotel is fairly ordinary but the staff are friendly. However when I finally vacated the room they charged me for smoking in the room because I put a sealed coffee cup with butts in the bin. I didn't smoke. Smoke clings to fabric and carpet. They were offended at the smell. I am capable of far worse smells. I was horrified at this really bizarre behaviour. I should've left the cup unsealed in the foyers rubbish bin. It is not against the rules to put something smelly in the bin. The hotel could be forgiven if I smoked in the room, and I would have smoked when I first arrived and copped the fine if I knew it was so little. But I didn't smoke, the hotel made an erroneous decision. The only evidence the staff have is the contents of my car ashtray that was put in a sealed coffee cup in the bin. Maybe housekeeping was a bit sour with me for reporting them for not leaving me milk the day before I left? Actually they forgot to do my room that day but i didn't make a fuss. Did the hotel also enjoy a good smell of my sanitary products while they were sniffing through my rubbish bins? If I didn't smoke then I can't be charged for smoking. A smell is not smoke.
Great location a bit out of the cbd, but not too far.nWe stayed two nights and the room was serviced - I expected but was lovely.nLovely room. Not noisy.nGreat to have car parkZ
As always the service was excellent. Room was spacious and quite. Pillows a bit hard.nBreakfast is always up and down. Very early in the morning they ran out of eggs, bacon and hash browns 730am only 12, 16 people in restaurant. Main complaint would be food is quite cold and bacon over cooked. We have been coming to the Scenic for over 20 years and always comment on the Breakfast to no avail.
It is with disappointment that I post this review especially given I have stayed at Southern Cross for 25+ years. I was there at the opening of the Casino and hired the top room for clients for an All Black Test at Carisbrook. I am walking with a walking stick currently and at no point even though a concierge is advertised did anyone offer to assist me with my bags. The car parking ticket dispenser was not working even though I had to get out of my car and push the button a number of occasions to get the barrier arm up so I had to weave my car through a gap through a closed barrier to park close to the back entrance. I paid more for a superior room instead of standard but it didn't seem like a superior room and seemed cold because it was on an old part of the building with single glazing and the heater was difficult to operate. I have stayed in better rooms Superior Rooms in the hotel and what made it worse was it was clear to me that they not busy especially after a big weekend of All Black rugby. Both rooms I was allocated were the same Standard not the Superior Rooms I had requested. I had to ask for a room closer to the elevators to prevent me having to walk to far on my walking stick. I think this last stay brings to an end a long history which I look back on with some good memories. Cheers
