Scenic Hotel Southern Cross

Great experience from the phone booking to walking into a heated room which was clean and comfortable with good amenities. Location is 5-10 minute walk to the Octogan, bonus. The in-house restaurant food is also very good. This is my second stay here and I will come back again.

Turned up to find our rooms had been given to guests from their other hotel up the road because of a fire. So we had to go to a far less salubrious hotel. Not sure why they couldn't send the other guests there. No discount offered or anything else, just a sorry about that and the New Zealand version of a Gallic shrug.nDisappointing.

Good location, nice and central to shops. The hotel rooms are quite dated but comfortable enough. One nice thing about dated hotels is they still have tubs, where it seems most newer or renovated hotels remove their tubs.nThe restaurant at the hotel... Terrible experience.nThis was the first restaurant I've ever been to where they said you're not allowed to take the food you paid for out of the restaurant and no I did not get the buffet. I ordered pancakes with a side of bacon. I wasn't super hungry so planned to take the rest with me to have later for lunch, and was told no.nA waste if money and food. I will never return.

Rooms, Service and Location are all better than good! Would be 5 stars save for the minor concerns of parking, but that's mostly a Dunedin issue; and the towel racks that are somehow strategically placed make it difficult to avoid the occasional head bump, no matter what room I stay in. The hotel itself is good about parking on their property Thanks!, just be mindful that it's limited. I always enjoy my complementary chocolate : and the early morning breakkies are consistently good, have never had a bad bite.

Very good stay here. Location was awesome.Rooms could defo do with an upgrade but still comfortable. Staff are amazing. Reception girl i think her name rangi was great, she sounded very sick so not sure why she was working lol but she was still super helpful with everything we needed and gave a great smile. Overall enjoyed our time here. Thanks team.
