Rooms are clean. Multiple USB outlets. Old elevator is classic but did not feel confident in its function. Newer elevator skipped floors so had to slug luggage up or down stairs. Poor lighting in rooms. Only one chair in the room. Shower stall is marble but can be very slick. Staff is nice.
Our room was smaller than expected, not what was shown on website for similar room. All the switches, coffee maker, etc were a bit different to operate with no instructions at all. Breakfast was good, it was table service and we paid for included breakfast. You could choose one entree and one beverage. If you wanted a side such as bacon, that was extra. The location was nice for walking around downtown.
We really would like to give 5 stars - because everything was splendid from staff, room, food, cleanliness and so on. Just perfect and beautiful. But it is not so funny to be evacuated in the middle of the night because of a fire alarm with a baby - though everything was well managed. Obviously not the hotel’s fault, but to not get a single explanation of what had happened the night before when you asked the staff or like a „sorry for the inconvenience the other night“ is a little unfortunate.
Omg their high tea was the best I ever had in Dunedin. So beautiful food, service. I couldn't give them enough praise. I gave them 5 stars on the function room and facilities.nnReally recommended their high tea.
Beautifully renovated old hotel, unfortunately let down by a few things;n-A window in our room 510 didn't latch fully shut, and all night the last night it was banging in the wind. We had a horrible sleep.n-The shower, which was a disabled bathroom despite not needing such a facility, had a curtain which didn't fully close meaning water goes everywhere in the bathroom. The shower changes from hot to cold often, and has low pressure causing a bit of a military-style experience.n-When we mentioned these things politely to the staff aty the front desk, the gentleman serving us actually sort of 'giggled' and then asked if we had a nice stay? That was a bit odd.
