Papatoetoe War Memorial Library

I love this library. The people are so helpful and friendly, nothing is ever a problem! It’s clean and tidy and has everything a person could want there. Plenty of computers to use free of charge. Wonderful.

This is a rating for the Justice of Peace that was there yesterday, not the library itself.nnHe was very rude. I was confused and the instructions were unclear on what I was supposed to do especially since it was my first time coming to see one. I suffer from high anxiety, and going there alone in itself was a big deal for me. I approached his desk and was silently about to put my number in the bucket next to him when his voiced boomed at me.nnHe was extremely dismissive and shouted at me like I was lesser than. I don’t know if it was because of the colour of my skin or what, because I didn’t even get the chance to say anything to him. So what else could it have been? I was very clearly confused and didn’t know what to do but he still chose to be unnecessarily cold towards me. I kept my calm and tried to navigate my way yet he still continued.nnI understand he’s there to volunteer his time, but nobody has the right to speak to people the way he did to me that day.nnI walked out in tears because of the embarrassment and shame he gave me by being so rude. He may have been overwhelmed by the line of people waiting, but he didn’t need to take it out on me, God forbid anyone else. I couldn’t help but think of how he was to treat people who only have English as a second language!nnI’m not going to say I’m at fault for being confused, because I can admit to that, I just want to know:nnHow many decades has he lived through and he still doesn’t know how to exercise basic human decency?

My first time in the library this week.nWent to trace my family tree back to german ancestors found our genealogy book there.nIt worked out great
