I recently had a lab test, and I must say, it was the best experience I've ever had. The young phlebotomist who took my blood was amazing. He was incredibly gentle and kind. I was feeling under the weather, but he cheered me up with his understanding and compassionate demeanor. Despite his youth, he handled everything with great care and professionalism. His skill and kindness truly made a difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you again. Highly recommend!
My father has been going to Labtests every Monday for the past 7-8 months to do his blood cross-match in preparation for his weekly blood transfusions due to severe anemia. Today, the phlebotomist Janise/Janice asked a lot of questions so my father called me to assist, and the first thing she said was that I need to accompany my father next time because he doesn't speak English and they need to confirm his identification. This was frustrating, as my father presents his NZ driver's license every time, and I was available by phone to assist if needed. There are also tools like Google Translate that could easily solve any communication issues.nnWhen I asked to speak to a supervisor, Jane, I was told my father should bring his passport for identification instead. This is confusing, as a NZ driver's license should be more than sufficient for ID purposes. After I pointed out that this didn't make sense, she eventually agreed to put a note in the system so they wouldn't ask for it next time.nnWhat frustrates me most is the inconsistent service. Some staff are kind and never ask too many unnecessary questions, making the process smooth, but others just give you attitude and make the experience difficult. It's disappointing to see such variation in service quality. I also saw a previous review mentioning that Chinese patients are treated rudely by some staff, and sadly, based on today's experience, this seems true. I hope Labtests can address this issue and ensure respectful treatment for all patients, regardless of language or ethnicity.
The staff should be trained to properly give test instructions to patients. Also smile wont hurt anyone. I went for a GTT test, initially phleb said my midwife’s referral hasnt come thru, that she is confused with the current referral form that she was accessing. I went to do the urine test and there was no paper towels to dry hands. I had the drink and the lady told me i have to wait 2 hrs and i can do them on the sofa outside. She didnt tell me that I had to stay in the lab for that test that I should’nt leave the premises. Unfortunately, since I had no idea of it i had to go outside to pick up something. I was then contacted by the lady who took my blood saying “I told you not to leave the premises”, which she DIDNT. I wouldnt have if inwas told about it.
Been here a few times, they get extremely busy but their number card system works well. Grab a card, scan the number and be seated until your number is called. Easy. Staff are down-to-business but fair. Lina, however was noteworthy: kindly patient while I sorted my forms and she was a calm, collected presence when drawing blood, with a quiet question or two for distraction, which made it a less scary process for me who is nervous around needles. Super, thanks again.
These guys are so professional and kind. I have the smallest veins ever but they are always as gentle as possible... real experts.
