Airport Gateway Hotel, Auckland

After reading reviews here I was worried what did we book. My expectations were low and I was very well surprised. Yes the room and mainly bathroom would do some renovation but rooms were big and clean. Stuff very friendly, meal for dinner and breakfast delicious. We would definitely stay again for the value of money. What wasn't great and I informed reception in check out day was soaked wet carpet under the windows in the master bedroom. Not sure if they forgot to shut the windows when rain was there before our arrival. And also the pressure in shower was low. However price is the WINNER HERE.

Arriving in Auckland at 1:00 in the morning, we were relieved to discover that the hotel provided 24-hour check-in service. This thoughtful feature demonstrated their understanding of the needs of weary travelers. The smooth check-in process allowed us to settle into our room without any hassle or delay, providing a seamless start to our stay.

If you have nowhere to go it's better than a tent. : The fridge was not working and the light in the bathroom was hardly strong enough to provide enough to feel comfortable. For some reason the operator decided to put the cups and glasses on the shelf next to the toilet, which is quite unhygienic. The parking was not renovated for at least 30 years with asphalt lumps laying around. We didn't even wanted to see the pool or go to the restaurant. Who ever designed the building had no idea. It is kind of monster. I believe it is time for redevelopment as a renovation wouldn't achieve much. Not really happy. The people working there are trying it, but it is a bit of gone under. I agree the weather and the floods did their part as well, but I hardly believe in ideal world it will become my favourite place. On the other hand it is close to the airport, but noisy because of the highway. The new building design should incorporate some acoustic solutions and probably multistorey concept to avoid flooding. Thinking about it probably the civil design should take into account the global environmental changes. As stated in the title, much better than a tent.

Was great as an overnight stay in Auckland after flying in. Easy transport with free bus. Good price. Friendly staff. Comfy bed. It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't....suited us fineRooms: 5/5

Stayed one night, it’s comfortable for just a stopover. My room was clean, the bed and toilet and sinks were pristine. Check in was seamless. Just a few things - I didn’t use the showers but I noticed an opening in the ceiling where there’s black mold, and the extra blanket in the closet had brown stains and smears on it when I opened it up to use. Probably needs better laundering. Also there was a constant loud squeaking sound from the corridors that echoed at regular intervals through the night, not sure what that was but it didn’t make for great sleep. There seems to be an extra charge on my card before I arrived from the price on my booking confirmation, maybe it was tax but they didn’t explain it. It’s still one of the cheaper options in the area so it’s great if that’s your priority.

Better than a tent at the airport but inly just. Extremely noisy, with cars reeving and dub dub boom boxes all night. Food in restaurant just very average and limited options for vegetarian. Dated bathroom need a good dust behind bedside cabinets. No care factor at all or offers of suggestion from night manager. Will not be back there are other options.

Stayed for one night before a flight. Not the cleanest hotel, and appears quite run down. In my room, the shower didn't drain well and pooled at the bottom during the shower. There is a free shuttle bus from the airport. This hotel is the last stop so it takes about 30 minutes as the bus stops at all other hotels along the way. The hotel was fine for one night, but I'd probably find a closer, cleaner hotel next time even if it costs a few bucks more. No issues with the staff, they were kind.

For a last minute check-in, they provided! Friendly over the phone and in person. The room we got had 3 single beds for the two of us which was fine. Everything was decent and we are grateful! Thanks team!Rooms: 4/5

If your Indian and Speak Hindi this place would be the very best. But in Auckland I expected to at least meet a typical Aucklander/ Maori. No not here.. Even with the Hindi music being pumped out at breakfast. A breakfast that was Typical Money saving, penny pinching. Chef prepares the instant coffee and packaged Cereal.with long term Milk. Man take an Interpreter!

Had read a LOT of reviews about this place before booking. A lot mentioned the absolutely shoddy cleaning standards this place has. Unfortunately there being nothing else really available for the night i needed, I decided to chance a stay here. I had stayed at other VR Properties in the past, and they have been okay. Arrived late after a long drive. Guy at Reception was pretty cold and disinterested. No directions or anything, just a vague wave of the hand towards the rooms. It was only after I had lugged all my bags through to my room, that I realized I could literally park right outside the ranchslider and unload the car there. On first impressions the room was actually okay. I mean it was certainly battered. The hard life of a Airport Hotel, meant the place was definitely showing its age and damage. All in all, I found the Cleanliness to be quite good. Linen was all white, all clean. No spots or stains. No rogue hairs in the bathroom. So no real issues there. The Shampoo/Body Wash stuff provided was actually really really nice stuff, and there was plenty of them all. Room had two Beds, Wall Mounted Telly, a Desk, Fridge, Coffee Making Station and a Bathroom with shower. Just a basic, standard Hotel Room. Bed was comfortable, and I slept pretty well. Few noises from next door rooms and the hallways, but nothing too obnoxious. Air Conditioning unit kept the room pretty cool on this muggy Autumn night. Continental Breakfast was included, but it did seem to be a pretty rundown, barren sort of affair. Not a lot to choose from, with all the fruit options looking pretty sad. Even the Orange Juice tasted off and weird. I must say, the Croissants were delicious. Warm, Fluffy and tasty. But don't expect much more than some cereal or some toast. Location of the Hotel is excellent, located just off a State Highway 20 Motorway offramp. The Airport is literally only a few minutes drive, with Buses regularly passing the front door. The Airport Shopping Mall is also a very quick drive down the road. Unfortunately I did find the price to be rather expensive for the offering. But all in all, I slept well, the room was comfortable and clean, and it was close to where I needed to be. The Customer Service was pretty poor, and that does definitely need to be worked on. I would consider staying again if the price was all right.
