I was in the store this afternoon looking for a new outfit for a party tonight and I was helped by a staff member named Sean, I have never had such amazing customer service at a clothing store, they went above and beyond to help me find the perfect outfit & I left with an absolutely beautiful outfit! Thank you so much, Sean! <3
I was at the Indooroopilly store this morning looking for jeans. I found what I wanted and tried them on. The store was very quiet and I was in the fitting room for about 10 minutes. Not one staff member acknowledge me or checked on me while I was in the fitting room. The moment I started to walk to the counter with my purchase, I was pounced upon by a staff member. I made a decision right then that I would make a purchase at another store. Terrible service.
The staff at this store were so amazing. They listened to what I needed, made me feel so comfortable and found perfect items that I didn’t even think of. They were so encouraging and went above in beyond in their service. Especially Riley :
All the employees completely manipulate you into feeling forced to buy items regardless of wether or not the particular outfit suits you. Obviously part of being a retail employee is the whole side of marketing and encouragement to purchase items. But when they sugar coat the whole experience, giving a false sense of self worth it’s just plain out cringe. Insecurity plays a big factor into most people feeling trapped into buying an item... Even if they aren’t particularly keen Obviously this is enforced by management to increase sales ; Ever tried walk down the street without interruption from people trying to rip you off with products in india? Overall, all items have the similar indie/ hipster style and are way over priced for what they really are, there’s not much anyone can do about pricing but honestly you’d be better of going to the op shop to purchase the same type of things for a fraction of the price.
I was at the Indooroopilly store today and I just want to say thank to Isabell for all her help. I honestly haven't had customer service like that in over 15 years. I was shopping all morning with no luck & feeling deflated until you helped me. Thank you for going over & beyond to put together outfits for me. Helping me with complete looks. As a new mum, I felt so out of date, out of shape and you helped me find outfits that complimented my body. A big thank you.
I bought a pair of stussy pants and they completely ripped in three places one only the second time wearing them. I emailed the store help people and had absolutely AMAZING assistance with a refund. Bree, the lady I talked to helped me find my receipt and get approval for a refund, she was lovely and I am very grateful for her help. 10/10.
I went into the Indooroopilly store to stock up on my summer essentials. I must admit I am very fussy when it comes to the fit and style of my clothing. The girls in store went above and beyond to find items that suited my needs. They were super genuine and authentic with their approach which I appreciate. The service that the girls provided was something you don’t receive in shops these days. Please congratulate your Indooroopilly team! :
I am writing a formal complaint about the false advertising in Indooroopilly Universal store as I was told numerous times that there was a sale for 2 shirts for $80 and even had one of the staff scan the shirts and double check and she she said they were on sale however when I went to purchase these two shirts they had told me that the sale didn't work and was about to be charged double. The shirts were on the same rack that was promoting the deal so it was very unfortunate to have to reject the items due to the incorrect pricing. This false advertising and ILLEGAL so I was very disappointed since the clothing in this store is very good.
Went to their branch in Brisbane, CBD. Absolutely amazing service. The staff is so friendly. One of the staff members named Kate went above and beyond to help out together an outfit for my friend and I.
Beware all future customers: She knows how to sell. You know who I'm talking about. She uses every trick in the book to encourage you to buy something, and sadly I think it is a reflection of unethical retail strategies that Universal employees are trained to use. Herein, such strategies manifest. It starts out with aggressive engagement strategies with the customer: asking questions which you can't simply or at least, not awkwardly say no to or refuse. This is actually consistent across all Universal stores. Then offering to take away the clothes that you picked up while perusing the store, and putting them in the change room "for you". Tactically, this provides a window for her to stay engaged with you the whole time while you're in the store, and this strategy appears to be particularly targeted i.e. successful at male customers. But really, it just feels like I am being constantly chased and always "on" during the whole experience. I don't even have a moment to breath, as if every second has to be either looking for a size, trying on the next garment or looking out back of store for alternatives. Don't get me wrong, the other employees employ the strategy similarly, however in a far less aggressive and insistent way which is far more welcome. In fact, I was once politely greeted by another employee in this way - to which I politely refused. Within 30 seconds this lady comes storming over the room, almost furiously, and gets right in front of me and beams intensely into my eyes and says "CAN I TAKE THOSE CLOTHES TO THE CHANGEROOM FOR YOU??" as if there was an expectation that I would do it and the other girl just didn't try hard enough. It was clear she was trying to make a point to the other employee on how to get that engagement with the customer, because it was very full on and "showy". Despite her, I held onto the clothes I wanted to try. From that point on, there is just straight up manipulative stuff. Like very obvious and transparent commenting that everything you try on looks perfect - almost obnoxiously so. She knows that she doesn't have the next size you want in store, so she tries to convince you that size would be too big before going off to look for it, not finding it, and saying "but that size would definitely be too big anyway". When you express even mild doubts about whether you like the colour, the cut, the logo, etc, she will ALWAYS tell you it looks really good on you and treating your misgivings with "what the hell, no" kind of expressions you should feel ridiculous for even saying that. Its basically as if what you want or like isn't a factor, and what she says, goes. What if you just change your shirt to a white shirt we have in store? White would look really good with those jeans - should I go get a white shirt for you to try? OMG, that shirt looks SO good on u - I am loving that shirt on u now she is trying to convince you to buy that shirt you never expressed any interest in. It often gets ridiculous. One time I had to just shut down the hype to get through the experience by stating I'm not buying shirts. It feels like a constant tug of war with her, as if you're trying to advocate for yourself and only getting things that you feel right about VS her forcing the idea into your head that all these other garment suits you as well. Almost like arguing. And this is extremely tiring. I don't doubt her skill, enthusiasm, energy and professionalism to retail - its a tough job. But I think the way she does it, and which Universal trains its employees, is highly unethical and should not be rewarded at Universal which it clearly is, as she is probably manager level by now. I guess its helpful if you know EXACTLY what you want and you're just trying to get to the end of the purchase experience on a busy weekend and you're willing to endure above. But, if you're just casually looking/trying stuff on - do not engage with her - you will go home with 5 clothes you don't actually want. But that's the idea isn't it. And Universal will continue to reward her for it. Truly, Hzel
