The Melbourne Hotel

About

Opening in early 2018, we're the old friend Perth hasn't seen in a while.

Story

You might have noticed we've been closed whilst restoring one of Perth's icons, but we are getting ready to re-open soon, bringing new life to the corner of Hay and Milligan Streets. Staying true to our heritage, we have retained the original grandeur of The Melbourne Hotels 1897 design, whilst the addition of the new modern architectural build reflects the ever-changing landscape of our city.

Expect a unique hotel experience. We cut through the noise to make things simple, giving our guests a bespoke stay with a personal touch. There are no cookie-cutter approaches here. We offer a mix of 73 heritage and contemporary guest rooms, each aesthetically furnished to complement their own characteristics. Yes; every stay will be different, as every room has its own story; that's what makes us one-of-a-kind.

Architects of The Melbourne Hotel have skillfully encompassed old with new, allowing the heritage aspect of the building to be celebrated from multiple viewpoints, whilst showcasing modern-day design. Guests of The Melbourne Hotel can expect to experience an abundance of natural light through the rooftop conservatory, internal room courtyard and wide corridors which provide expansive views across the city.

But we are not just a hotel; guests, visitors and locals alike are invited to take a journey through The Melbourne Hotels extensive food and beverage experiences.

De Baun & Co
The "Old Melbourne" pub has been re-envisioned and honoured with a new name, paying homage to its heritage and founder John De Baun, the local pub

Keisuke
Introducing the first Keisuke in Australia, renowned throughout Asia, The Melbourne Hotel is excited to bring Japanese born Keisuke Takada’s famous ramen noodle bar to the shores of Perth, Western Australia. A great choice for the ramen connoisseur.

Hattendo
The first in Australia, Hattendo is the Japanese cream bun that begs for another bite. A hybrid of sweet and savory and made with a passion for perfection, The Melbourne Hotel is delighted to introduce the authentic Japanese flavour of Hattendo cream filled buns to Perth. Housed in The Melbourne Hotel conservatory enjoy your bun in a café style atmosphere or grab it to go.

Grand Orient
With Perth now a thriving hub for food adventurers, The Melbourne Hotel together with renowned resident Chef Kwok Chan brings to you a taste of the Orient. Inspired by the old-world, our menu is based on Cantonese flavours using modern and traditional cooking techniques, plated so the ingredients are always the star. The Grand Orient sits within the original 1897 Melbourne Hotel building providing the perfect old-world setting whether dining for lunch or dinner, taking a private room or simply sipping a cocktail at the Orient bar.

Aurora
Designed with you in mind, the Aurora is perfectly perched on the rooftop of The Melbourne Hotel, a flexible space with views across the vibrant city scape. Like the lights of the Aurora Australis, the venue transforms from day to night, beginning with breakfast under Perth’s famous blue skies before transforming into a place for meetings, work and conversation, with coffee and light snacks to keep you going. As the sun goes down, the lights of the Aurora go up, primed for after work drinks, sundowners or dinner and drinks in a lounge setting.

We’re excited to be reopening our doors to Perth city and we look forward to inviting you in.

Went for Hi Tea at Grand Orient with my sister and our daughters yesterday. I fell in love with the blend of old building and new modern extension of the building. The food and beverages are of good quality and beautifully crafted. Love the wait staff especially Pearl. She is attentive and never fail to put a smile on her face no matter how busy she gets. We made reservation for dinner in two weeks time and looking forward to it.
The reception staff were absolutely fantastic. At very short notice they were able to extend my stay and managed to keep me in the same room. The hotel is very comfortable. It's own dining facilities are easily accessible and offer a variety of food options.
Really appreciated the free printing of documents at all hours.nnThe exterior of the old part of the building could do with a pressure hose wash down. First impressions count.nnThey were very accommodating with a free late checkout which made our last day in the Perth CBD much more pleasant and less tiring and less stressful - thank you
Fantastic! The customer service was amazing and the hotel is so beautiful. Renovated to be modern and comfortable whilst maintaining the buildings old charm and uniqueness.nThe rooms were clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve had in a hotel. The location was fantastic and close to everything.nI was also impressed with the sound proofing of the room. We stayed on level 2 above the restaurants which were quite noisy but the moment we closed the door no noise came into the room at all.nExceptional hotel and fantastic value for money. Will 100% stay here again.nnDate of stay was 12/07/24-16/07/24nRoom type: Contemporary King
A lovely looking hotel which has blended the old with the new very successfully. We stayed in the old part of the hotel on the 2nd floor right at the front. Unfortunately, the old sash windows let a lot of traffic and street noise in and I couldn't sleep without earplugs. The floorboards were creaky and noise travelled through the walls from room next door closing cupboards and doors. Would recommend asking for a quieter room at the back in the new section if you are a light sleeper. Room was clean, spacious and well appointed with lots of windows. Beds were very comfortable and they had a pillow menu. Staff were helpful and responsive. The only reason I wouldn't stay here again is purely due to noise levels as I like a really quiet room to sleep in.
