St John of God Bunbury Hospital

About

St John of God Bunbury Hospital is a leading provider of health care in the south-west of Western Australia, located 2 hours from Perth.

Story

Established in 1927, St John of God Bunbury Hospital is a 120-bed private hospital. As part of St John of God Health Care, Australia's largest not for profit healthcare provider, we offer a variety of services including acute medical, surgical, day stay, maternity, palliative care, renal dialysis, oncology and a range of community-based services. Located 2 hours from Perth, we service the community of Bunbury, reaching into the South-West of Western Australia.

The hospital's recent $14.5 million expansion and redevelopment enables us to provide up-to-date medical facilities in contemporary surroundings for our patients.

St John of God Bunbury Hospital is a division of St John of God Health Care, one of Australia's largest private health care providers and largest Catholic not for profit private healthcare group.
In addition, our co-location with the public Bunbury Hospital increases the range of services available, ensuring the best possible care for patients and minimising the need for people to travel to Perth or other centres for treatment.

Extensive clinical and specialist services - including radiology, pathology, medical imaging, dietetics, allied health and hydrotherapy - are available in our Medical Centre and we have more than 200 accredited permanent and visiting medical practitioners.

The hospital also provides community-based services such as alcohol and other drug services via our South West Community Drug Service Team, a volunteer program, an outreach medical service and a satellite renal dialysis unit in Busselton.

Mission

To continue the healing mission of Jesus Christ through the provision of health care services that promote life to the full by enhancing the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual dimensions of being human.

Just checked out from an overnight stay for ankle surgery and the entire experience was outstanding from beginning to end. I have had numerous surgeries and given birth at various private hospitals around Perth, and I would definitely rate SJOG Bunbury to be the very best. The organisation and management is excellent creating such a smooth process from beginning to end. All of the staff and nurses I encountered were exceptional - extremely thorough, kind and caring. I was never made to feel rushed at all and was always well informed. If you have live in the Bunbury region I highly recommend! A big thank you to all staff!
As usual slow service, no one knows how long you wll be waiting, staff seem annoyed if you ask questions, mountains of unnecessary paperwork. Seems to be many staff standing around talking ignoring anything else. Complete lack of urgency. Twice ive been here, once for myself where i walked out after 5 hours waiting still in pain and once with my mother who had some chemicals in her eye. The days of good hospital care at SJOG are gone.
I haven't even checked in yet and I'm very unhappy with this entire process that has me scrambling to meet SJOG's sudden requirements, anxious about the entire process, and overall unsure about what to expect.nnMy appointment was booked weeks ago, and then Thursday midday I get a call saying I have to fill out more forms. I was given such minimal notice and at such an inconvenient time as I was told that it needed to be done that day and I was about to head inland that I had to pull over on the side of the road somewhere that I could find reception, and do it on my phone.nnI also spoke to two people on that phone call, as I tried to complete it on the phone, but it turns out I could not, and then the information I was given about completing the 'mandatory' online form was not only contradictory, but incorrect in the end it turns out.nnEventually I managed to complete the online form, but had to add multiple notes stating that information is not fully accurate nor complete as I did not have all the required information with me - as I was told I would not need it.nnI've only received that one call from SJOG Bunbury in total, and the rest has been SMS directing me to the online system, which really lacks much information at all.nnThere are multiple questions I have, since I've been given such little information, but there is no visible guidance around this and so I'm just going to wing it, and expect that given this lack of a human element, and apparent disorganisation, that this expensive diagnostic appointment is likely going to be of minimal or no use.nnShould anything end up above 2 stars in outcome, I'll update this review, but I can only assume that I'll have to book this again and go up to Perth to attend a more organised hospital with better staffing and communication. I'm not giving it only 1 star, since I've not attended yet and their staff may be friendly or similar.nnUPDATE: Having now attended, I have downgraded my rating to 1-star. I provided the reception staff feedback nicely and constructively of course on the check-in process, and before checking out I provided the team I was working with feedback on how appalling the rooms were. I would not recommend an overnight stay at this hospital, even in a private room, if you ever have to.nnQuick summary: limited desk space to sit at - approximately the size of a stable table, broken light in the room, no food provided, old poor quality TVs, noises all night long, inch gap under the doors so you cannot get a dark room, pillows as flat as a paver, mattress stiff enough that my back still hurts a day and a half later.
Went in for day surgery, the service was amazing! A big thankyou to the Admission Staff, Doctors and Nurses you were all so caring and professional!nSo Much Appreciated! Many Thanks!!
Coronary Care Unit staff were respectful. Good care taken of my husband. Great facility to have special secured unit here in Bunbury. Disabled parking bays available close by. Cafe also available on site.
