During a three-week trip we changed hotels frequently, ending up with a double-digit number of different accommodations. This particular hotel was only for one night, and we had specifically requested a higher standard overall.nnMy disappointment was significant. The room in this hotel was simply not up to an acceptable standard in terms of quality or workmanship. A lot can be tolerated when traveling, but in this case the room appeared poorly and strangely repaired, with solutions that made little sense.nnI work in the construction industry, and this would never have passed an inspection. There were visible gaps, odd air drafts, bathroom fixtures installed at what felt like child height, and incomplete floor tiling. In several places, tile adhesive was visible where fixtures had been installed on top of unfinished flooring. Overall, there were many questionable construction and finishing details.nnWhat made the experience even more surprising was that when I pointed out these issues, the staff claimed this was their “front room” — the best room they had. They also considered themselves a four-star hotel. I had to make it clear that this was simply not realistic. It was not even at a three-star level, except perhaps in their own imagination.nnOut of all the hotels we stayed at during our 3,200 km road trip along the east coast, this was by far the most disappointing. I cannot recommend this hotel.
First time staying here, and I thought it was just okay. The staff didn't appear friendly or welcoming they weren't rude. The room was nice and enjoyed the big bed. Was disappointed that Foxtel didn't work on the TV, so I couldn't watch the footy, as that was the only time I turned the TV on. Location is good as there are plenty of places to eat on Palmer Street, which was beneficial and came in handy.
This hotel is in a great location with many restaurants in walking distance. We stayed for 10 days and decided after arriving to upgrade to a slightly larger room that had a sofa. When we checked in, Jacqui was working and took wonderful care of us, making sure we had what we needed and made us feel welcome and at home. The room itself was very nice with a wonderful view, the pool was clean and nice, laundry area was clean with free use of the washers and dryer, but overall the hotel could use a little updating, mainly obvious in the lifts. The breakfast area was nice and well stocked, but it would have been nice if the restaurant was open evenings also. While we were there, any time we needed something, we tried to ask Jacqui as she was always helpful and friendly. There was an older woman with dark hair and glasses who worked the check in desk, and she wouldn't even look up when we walked past. We tried to speak to her as we were coming or going and either got no response or just a small nod. She was really the only negative experience we had with any of the employees there, as everyone else was friendly and helpful. I can definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there the next time I am in Townsville.
Rooms are showing their age. Old yellow tiles in tiny bathroom with 1980’s curtains. Vanities are worn out with ceramic coming away and holes in the wall where the hair drier used to leave. Paint peeling from wall next to bed. TV cables hanging loose shows zero attention to detail.nnPositivesnBed is comfortable, Staff are really nice and location is great. Rydges time to spend some money on a revamp for this old girl you have made your money out of it time to put some back in.
The bathrooms are really dated and difficult to use Taps take 3 turns past closed to stop running, toilet flush jams down, shower still has curtain which went out of fashion many years ago, but having said that, the hotel is really nice and I still give 5 stars because they do really well with what the offer. Only stayed 1 night but we enjoyed the stay and would be back. It was very reasonably priced, nice location, service was excellent and the little touches Like the choc chip cookies in reception, were appreciated. Also a nice pool area.
