The purple room was cool but I wished the screen was bigger. The seats were comfy but needs more cupholders.
First visit here, although have been planning to visit for years. Staff were ok but must have been busy with school holidays. Wanted a Margarita but unfortunately they didn’t have all the ingredients so switched to a Cosmopolitan which was delicious! Also ordered a pint of Heads Japanese lager on tap Foyer walls are adorned with old movie posters plus plenty of seating available with retro table & chairs sets & high bar tables with stools. Also interesting hand crank movie reels & a beautiful old cash register.
Five stars lives up to its name. The theaters are small, clean, and comfortable. The building is charming and retro in an enjoyable way. Staff are super friendly and chill. Concessions are good and reasonably priced. And the venue has a good mix of blockbusters and classics.nnThe only negative is that the theater, being in an older building, is not as accessible for those with disabilities.
Small indi-type cinema - I've seen a few premieres there.nnComfortable, a great feel - the way going to the movies used to feel Luke a special event...nnSeats fairly straight - I'm short so find the drop between aisles excellent for still being to see over tall people!
I love this cinema so much. Went here on Halloween for an unofficial Halloween movie festival and loved it. So good to find a place that screens niche cult movies and clearly cares about cultivating an audience for them. Loved talking with other people before and after each movie and geeking out over what's on. Seeing giallo horror or gross body horror with a large audience to react to was a great pleasure.nMy only gripe is with the general organisation and management of the general flow. Occasionally you'll come into the building and have literally no one around to help you. At one point before a movie, I had to give other people directions to the bathroom and inform them of specific showtimes because no staff members were available to assist. Alternatively, that same night, a traffic jam of people occurred due to the scheduling of two movies. One movie ended right as another one was meant to be starting in the same room. It created a massive pile-up as people struggled to leave; some were doing a double feature so either stood at the door or just remained in their seats. Meanwhile another movie in another room was also starting. It created a jumbled mess that could have been avoided with proper planning from a top-down level.nWith that being said, the actual attendants were amazingly accommodating and organised that night, and I cannot commend them more. The advantage of semi independant theatres is that you're free to do more specialised events and tailor to a niche audience. I'd love to see them do more events and festivals in the future. I'm dying to find a place where I can see midnight movies or oddball picks that major chains won't show.
