Popped in a couple of weeks ago; perfect long black and soy flat white. Good service, quirky/cool setting, clean facilities, best sounds! Decided to call in again on the way home = just as good this morning: excellent food, great coffee, friendly prompt service. Well done to the new management and crew!
The quesadilla made vegan was delicious! Would recommend to anyone, didn’t need the cheese. I had it with hashbrowns which were yum. They adapted a breakfast for my mum who has some annoying intolerances and the service was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and yummy food. Finally, the coffee, perfect
Birds inside with patches of feces on the table. Server refuses to wear a mask. Food takes a long time to be served and then very rude service with mistakes and miscommunication between staff. When food did arrive half if it was burnt. Terrible experience will not be returning. On a positive side, the toilets were very nice and really well maintained. Also they have a playground that you need to pay for.
Absolutely blown away with the turn around of this cafe. Have been many times under the old ownership and they staff lacked customer service and they didn't cater to dietary requirements well. I went today and was so happy with the amount of vegan options, including a vegan option on the kids menu. All the staff members were incredibly helpful and pleasant. Coffee was amazing. Will be back again and again
my partner and myself just had breakfast at The Collective Cafe in Oamaru it was fantastic. Cafe under new management. great to see the young owners doing such a great job. excellent coffee and food and most of the food made on the premises. I wish them all the best. certainly recommend you pay a visit.
Dropped in for a quick lunch. Cool and quirky cafe, but not very warm. Highly recommend the mushroom and leek pies. Steak and cheese pie was good, but no noticable cheese. Coffees tasted good, but were only lukewarm. Disappointed to see the kids play area at the back, used to enjoy wandering around the shop, but guess the kids are happier!
Nice hot coffee and friendly staff, it's great seeing the owners working along side their staff and chatting away to customers and offering up suggestions for different dietary requirements There's always little changes happening around inside which is always a nice surprise to see. There's been steady improvements since Kat and Andy have taken over, it's a shame the years of bad reviews have had such an effect. Vegetarian options: A nice selection to choose from. Kid-friendliness: A big indoor playground with an under 2 year olds area. They also do birthday parties! Parking: Being in the location it is old oamaru parks are limited but there are usually some around the back follow the back laneway down beside the steam punk train Wheelchair accessibility: Wide ramp via the back entry way Dietary restrictions: GF, DF, V, and Vegetarian options
Café is nice. Coffee took like 10 min. I give only 3 stars due to the very very dirty indoor playground. You pay 5 nz dollar for half an hour per child and I have never seen a playground that disgustingly dirty.Food: 4/5
This is a favourite of ours in Oamaru. Live the friendly service and the quirky couches and tables. It's set right in the Victorian Precinct and just fits in there perfectly. The coffee is always great and they do an awesome and very large and tasty sausage roll I find it impossible to resist. My wife loves the sweet treats here too.
note: none of this is exaggeration, and i'm trying not to seem like a hater - i like the aesthetic/decor, it's clear and trendy but i think it was a little too cluttered, some of the tables looked hard to get to with random stuff in the way. - many of the tables had dirty dishes on them and/or looked unwashed, including the one we sat down at, and it took a while for this to be noticed and fixed by the staff. - the pesto in the "pesto pasta" was barely visible, didn't order it but saw in the cabinet. - also noticed a slice about 1.5in^2 that was being sold for $5.50. just an observation. - clearly understaffed :/ - i ordered the coconut lime cake, which was hugely disappointing, there was no main flavour, it just tasted like a completely plain cake with a hint of lime and a bunch of desiccated coconut. i feel like if you're only using desiccated, that doesn't make it a coconut cake. there are so many parts of the fruit to utilise, and the part they chose to use has almost no flavour. a shame. - the rhubarb apple muffin had 1 piece of rhubarb in it. also, wouldn't be surprised if it used the same batter as the cake previously mentioned. - the avocado toast was laden with toppings but had absolutely no butter. why? - the cherry on top: they serve their iced drinks in plastic cups that didn't appear to be recycled. we didn't even get takeaway drinks, they just gave them to us like that. ??????? in conclusion, i see their vision in terms of vibe and food, but i don't think enough care is being taken to get to where they wanna be. i think put less energy in the appearance and focus more on the products you're actually selling.
