Almost everything about this place scarred me. First, I lived in Jindalee. It was a good 45 minutes drive in there this was in the mid eighties, the traffic is way worse now. My parents worked in the CBD in their successful business, so unfortunately there was money available to enrol not only myself but also my two sisters there. It was an exhausting grind getting in there and home and wore me out. Why oh why we couldn't go somewhere closer. Corinda High. St Peters if we HAD to go private. Please consider sending your kids local.nnI met some lovely girls, but the intense focus on achievement drained me of the ability to enjoy my studies. The lack of exposure to boys our own age meant many of us were very immature when it came to males by the time we started Uni or otherwise got into the real world. 12 - 17 years is a critical time for psychosexual development. You can't get that back. The longest I could stay with a male was five years and that was really only because we had a child. I gave my daughter the gift of a co-ed school St Peters and normality.nnI was quite a high achieving student but had mental frailty that was not addressed adequately by the school counsellor though I reached out for help and without going into the gory details, wound up in a private mental ward in my final semester and had to have my final score based on my first three semesters on medical grounds. I easily got into Arts at UQ, then did another degree after that where I got high marks.nnIt took me so long to recover from the hothouse, pressured environment of BGGS. I was already a competent student when I got to the school and in all reality would have been an elite student in a state school environment it was a whole different ball game at BGGS where many of the smartest and most gifted students across Brisbane converged. I know Mum and Dad thought they were giving us the best start in life, but I feel in the long run I would have been happier and more well rounded if I'd gone to a state or way more relaxed co-ed private school. I've struggled with anxiety and depression my whole life and it started at that school. It was so stressful I even shun any association with friends I made back then. I just sort of reinvented myself when I got away to block it out.nnI hope this review is food for thought for prospective parents. If YOU'RE smart, value learning, make sure there is educational stuff going on around the house, support your kids with their learning, are happy to be there for them to talk about mental health, boys etc, they will GET to uni or wherever they want to be regardless. You can use the money you save to go on exciting wilderness/ foreign adventures or whatever is your jam to further extend them.
Just attended the open day. Wow, what a lovely school. Amazing facilities, the girls were so impressive, the school looked wonderful. A place for young minds and souls to grow.
idk if im unlucky but there’s never any soap in the bathrooms
This school is so sigma. Love it only problem is the toilets like gosh please get those managed
Personally wouldn’t send my children here, my ex friend went here for 2 years 7 & 8 and started doing self harm due to some bulling. Only some teachers care and listen. Others can’t be bothered.. I think another great alternative to this school is Somerville house. I went here and it’s so amazing.
