WORST PEOPLE TO DEAL. BANK OF SYDNEY REVIEW I contacted bank of Sydney Maryland branch on 15th Aug for to re-finance my current home loan and use equity for my investment purpose. Branch Manager Ian Sloss had looked at the bank borrowing calculator and told me i am able to borrow money without any issue. My partner is on maternity leave which i disclosed to Ian on first instance as i am aware of some banks does not count maternity leave woman's income in borrowing capacity. Even disclosing my partner’s leave scenario Ian was confident and advised me that i will get loan done on coming Monday. It took another week for Ian to come back to me with suggestion that we need to show a bank reason for using my Equity. He advised me to get a letter from my accountant with stating my equity need and requirement. (I never seen this requirement from any bank where bank trust my accountant words more than mine). By submitting this letter Ian promised again that my loan is getting approved next day. Meanwhile Ian went on leave and no follow up has been done from any other staff. Every time i called Ian he either don’t pick up my phone or give me a message with call you back and he calls me back every time after 5 o'clock with promising me next day he will follow up and will come back to me before lunch. This story goes every day from Ian. After taking more than one and half month for this he came back to me with another requirement where i need to provide letter from my partner’s employer about she is full time and she is returning work after maternity leave. I submitted this letter on Thursday and i got reply from Ian that Jason (Credit officer) going on leave Friday and he will get this loan done before COB Friday. I did not get any response from Ian on Friday and following Monday i got another called from Ian mentioning Diana (Credit head) will approve my loan with condition where i have to provide pay slip once my partner return to work until than my equity will be freeze. I would never recommend anyone to go for this Bank. Mainly if you decide to go with this bank after your purchased or investment somewhere. You may end up with completing cooling off period and losing your deposit. This entire episode took 2 months for me causing me financial burden and mental pressure. My question to bank never answered: Why Branch Manager took this much time for application? Wrong Promises Wrong Guidance? Even after mentioning why i am doing re-finance, Branch manager did not used bank's borrowing calculator to see if I am able to use/get my equity? Why Branch Manager promising loan will be approved after every call?

They have the rudest and most annoying tellers. They just frown at you and dont show any interest to be of any assistance. They are too lazy! I asked for a bank statement from the Castlereagh branch. I told the guy beforehand that i left my bank card and he was so rude. Instead of asking for an i. D. he sarcastically asked he how could he identify me then. I volunteered to give my passport and licence without him asking. Surprise! He gave me my bank statement in a plain paper not even in a letterhead which became useless. Dont ever try this bank. It is so inconvenient to bank with them they are so outdated and dont really value their customers.

This bank is so behind, technologically. App has only basic banking features, hasn’t been updated since 2014 - lacks optimisation for iOS 8+, TouchID, etc. Issues paper statements, no option for email. I had to verify my identity in-branch, many options (eg, activate Apple Pay) require phone assistance and can’t be done online. To that end, they usually don’t know what to do and ask to ring you back. Yet to ever get a call back though. The interest rates are not competitive and they don’t seem to have any additional bonus (like rewards points.) Couldn’t recommend.

Rude, asking lots of irrelevant questions, archaic processes & waiting times. I don't think they really want the customers!
