It's frustratingly close to being excellent. But it isn't quite. All it needs is some training. The great.... The ingredients they use and sell really are fantastic. You know an owner cares as much about their cafe as they do their farm produce when they give you premium condiments. That sounds silly, I know, but it means they're not trying to cut corners. Which is excellent. The burger tasted great, the chips were interesting and well cooked although I suspect they bought them frozen, but still, well procured. The not great... It's hit a glass ceiling. Small details which stop it being awesome, all of which would be fixed *forever* if they just employed a consultant for a week to train their team and cooks to the next level. Here's why.... The burger... Although great, came with a "tesco-like" salad smothered in balsamic. Also, the cheese was missing, and they forgot the chips. The sauce balance was also all wrong. When they did bring the chips, which I paid extra for, the basket was only half full even though I paid for a large chips. The kids sandwich? Nope. It was identical to the adults. Again, coming with a tesco-like salad smothered in balsamic which kids won't eat btw The plating etc smells of someone who watches too much Instagram but doesn't necessarily realise doesn't work in reality - difficult to eat from the curved plates, and the baskets for crisps and fries mean they break when you take them out. Yeah, I sound petty. But it's so close to being awesome! You can see they care. Just... They don't know how to make it better. Which it so easily could be without spending any more money. Please please please invest in a week's worth of "next-level training" from a good consulting chef-patron there's loads in Bristol and then this would be nationally fantastic. Hugs
Took family to see the Christmas Market, lovely stalls in a marquee outside. I bought several Xmas pressies there! Lovely food in the cafe, it was busy but didn't have to wait long for our food. Staff friendly and helpful. Great farm shop - bought some pressies in there too! Nice, flat, level floor inside - great for those with mobility issues.
Dear Hanley Farm shop, It would be very helpful to all dog owners when visiting a ‘dog friendly’ eatery if signs indicated where you are allowed to sit with a dog. Having sat down and made ourselves comfortable with my elderly grandparents who struggle to walk we were then told to move as dogs weren’t allowed to sit in that area. I looked everywhere for signs and there weren’t any. I understand if dogs aren’t allowed in parts of a restaurant but it should be clearly signposted rather than allowing customers to sit comfortably and then being told to move, particularly when having to also move elderly grandparents who struggle to walk.
Meat pies tasted pretty poor as did the sausage rolls. Nothing really looked like it was sourced or made locally. Resident Butcher had no black pudding and pointed me towards a fridge where commercially produced black pudding was sliced and vacuum packed just like Aldi and on sale for twice the price. Pretty poor overall and very expensive!!
The Breakfast was excellent . Best we have had ever and we have had a lot .. Staff was excellent and perlite with impeccable service … Excellent farm shop with some awesome butchers selection .
Had a very tasty Eggs Benedict with poached egg and bacon and my husband had a full English breakfast this morning. Picked up a lovely rump steak and some veg for dinner this evening and I am sure that will be delicious. Gorgeous little farm shop and will definitely stop by again when we are next in the area.
Great place to visit for a Sunday morning breakfast . The food is great and the farm shop is full of lovely food
Wonderful. Had my Christmas order of meats from here. They were all superb. They had some lovely Christmas cheeses in aswell so brought loads of different things and it was all very good quality. From the fresh produce to shelf items. It was all very good. Plenty of parking and helpful friendly staff. It's a pleasure to shop there.
Excellent farm shop with good selection of food and cakes.
Great place. Good coffee, wonderful food and great staff. The shop is full of really good quality goods, food, gifts and drink....a great selection of beer, cider and wines, lots of locally sourced foods and fun gifts. The cafe area is definitely worth a visit, with decent coffee at a reasonable price. Since I wrote my review, the cafe has been extended and the new building is fantastic, comfortable and relaxed. Not been here for a long time, I decided to spoil myself with a breakfast this morning. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toasted bagel....with a cup of earl grey. A huge plate of food arrived at my table. Totally delicious and I struggled to finish it. I was lucky to get a seat next to the woodburner which made for a perfect breakfast! Thanks to Harriet and the team for their wonderful friendly welcome.
