Pleasantly surprised by the quality here despite being part of the mall! We ordered the NY strip, t-bone, beef cheek, spiced salmon and some sides. The steaks were cooked to a perfect medium-rare and tasted great with the mushroom and garlic sauces. The salmon was also quite tasty, although the portion was a bit small. The beef cheek was the real star though. So tender it just fell apart and didn't even need a knife! For the sides the cauliflower bites were great, however the potato skins were a tad too oily and didn't have enough potato in them. Big serving size for both though. Service was good not great, although that maybe partly due to our waiter being new. Food came out fairly quickly too which is always a bonus. Overall a good experience!
We had a wonderful dinner date at Porterhouse. Staff is exceptional and the food is amazing. We had to thank the chef Doug and his staff for the delicious food. Berry pudding was divine. Best place to go if you want a food coma. Loved the garlic bread and buffalo wing's.Food: 5/5
Located in Pakuranga, Auckland this special home of food was a great choice. Steak, assortment of seafood and other choices ensures everyone has something to choose from. Friendly staff and a popular good food, you'll be best to call ahead and secure your seat. The layout helps to give you a range of options, so if it's a nice out with the crew, date night or a family feed, you'll find plenty of room for you and co.
Im gonna add 5 stars because the service was fantastic and the pork belly was really really good. We went there with no booking on what was a super busy Valentines Day silly of us to think that was sensible at 6pm too but the lovely Front Of House did his best to squeeze us in. we managed to get a table and were able to celebrate each other with little to no planning. Thanks again Porterhouse team.
My experience at dining here swung from one extreme to the other in several areas. The staff were really attentive and happy to turn the music down a smidge so that us oldies in our 50’s could chat more easily, but bless, the poor waitress didn’t know that Chardonnay was a white wine, and tried to serve my brother’s merlot to my sister-in-law. The plates for 3 of us were cleared away while one was still eating, which always just feels wrong, even if you want to give them credit for clearing the ‘done’ dishes. But no real complaints here. The salt & pepper calamari was probably the worst calamari dish I’ve eaten in my life. They say it is flash fried - well - the rings are sooooo thin, I think they’d be overcooked even if you had them in the pan/fryer for 5 seconds. There was no flavour of the calamari, just the dried crunch and flavour of the burned ‘dusting’. I was so disappointed and was now dreading my main. But what a contrast. The Roquefort fillet was perfection. It was amazing. My brothers both had the lamb shanks and apart from saying that the shanks were a little anaemic and could have done with some browning at the start, they were very happy. We will return - but definitely won’t be ordering the calamari again.
Came here for a good steak to celebrate our anniversary. Be aware the steaks are priced high! Let me start ..the staff is incredible, very attentive and polite. Got the cheese garlic bread which was quite dry not much garlic butter with 1 slice of melted cheese on top. Btw it is huge! The steaks - got eye fillet with Roquefort sauce. Honestly it wasnt anything special, however the price is hefty$49.50. My man got the prime rib which was better than mine. Damn..haha. $54.50 I mean nice vibe but for the price I was expecting better quality meat and better flavour.
Loved the atmosphere, portion size is massive for someone like me with an average appetite. Service was good, I suppose visiting as a part of a big group is somewhat challenging for both parties. Oreo cheesecake was mind blowing and their in-house lager was interesting.Food: 4/5
** it's been brought to my attention that my review may not have been as... balanced ...as I'd wish. I've therefore voluntarily elected to amend portions of the original ** I rated Porterhouse low. It wasn't due to the food or the service which was great but the raucous coming from another table was beyond awful. My dinner companion had the Scallop & Sirloin whilst I had the Ceasar Rump. I'm usually somewhat suspicious of rump but in this case it was tender & cooked well. The noisy table... Where do I begin? It was a large group of 20 or so. I'm guessing some kind of Christmas dinner but noisy... Very very noisy... Did I mention that it was noisy? There were several women at the far end who were constantly shrieking with laughter. Ordinarily that's not bad but after a continuous hour, it was pretty annoying. We weren't able to have our own conversation over the noise. I noticed several diners leaving with pretty sour expressions and complaining to the manager didn't do anything... What could he do really? When paying for our meal, the manager did wipe off our drinks. My dining companion later suggested that an offer of drinks during the meal might have been more appropriate but I'm ambivalent about this. Personally. I think a small discount say 10% might have been more suitable. I'm almost disappointed that my semi-serious suggestion to turn the firehose on them wasn't taken up. So a good meal but terrible environment. You can tell when things are bad when you have the urge to approach the table and thank them for ruining an otherwise good meal. -- X -- ADDENDUM We were offered to relocate tables but being mid meal, this was not attractive... Further the noise decibel & frequency was such that there was nowhere within the premises to escape it. Perhaps the premises next door? Several attempts were made by staff to quiet the din which lasted all of 30 seconds. The only thing that quieted them was feeding them. Unfortunately by that time we'd almost finished. Thankfully we exited well before they started up again after dinner. in fairness, I have in the past enjoyed excellent meals, service & atmosphere at this establishment. So this is definitely a one off. That said, it remains the worst dining experience that I've had on 5 continents far surpassing the outback pub which served the 95% raw "baked" potato. I don't blame the restaurant for this scenario although they must bear some responsibility for 20 people ruining the meals of the 40-50 other people in the restaurant. Moving forward, how to deal with unruly customers? Feeding them is only a temporary fix. I think an area that could be partitioned off would go a long way towards addressing this issue.
Arrived at the ample parking carpark including disability spaces. Walked across the carpark & then entered the restaurant and greeted by the waiting staff. I was directed to the seating area for the 65th birthday party.. We were attended by the service staff for drinks and then eventually the meals ranging from entrees to mains and even desserts. Was thoroughly impressed by Ethan Freya Olivia and Kendra and the crew who served us for the couple of hours we were inside the restaurant. The toilets were very clean and there was a resting area where children could play safely and in full view of parents and guardians alike. The meals and drinks came out in an orderly and timely fashion. I would definitely return as it was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable dining and drinking experience. A well deserved and earned 4 stars entertaining and exhilirating & extremely impressive customer experience for a special occasion like the 65th birthday party. A well deserved and appreciative & appropriate 4 stars rating.
