I was in town for work, and my colleague and I headed to the Barbican as I knew there were plenty of places to eat. We walked the streets and selected the Harbourside because of the sign in the window that they had won 3rd place in a national award for their Fish&Chips. We quickly came to realise why. We were greeted in a friendly manner and informed that there was seating upstairs as well as the takeaway. We opted for this as it was raining heavily. The waitress on duty was friendly and helpful, I selected the regular Haddock with chips and gravy along with tartar sauce. Even the sauce was great! The chips were lovely, and there were plenty of them. The fish was beautiful, a nice light but crispy batter and a decent portion for me without being too much. Whenever I am in Plymouth again, I shall definitely be coming back, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve in this year's awards.
We stopped here on a whim while strolling through the area. We were seated upstairs, and had a great view out onto the street and docks. My wife had the cod, mini fish and chips and though I ordered the haddock mini fish and chips I was in advertently brought the full-size one. Sometimes mistakes happen during ordering. So it was a few dollars more, I didn’t mind because the fish was absolutely delicious. For us the true test of good fish and chips is partially if it’s still crispy at the last bite. This one absolutely was. The serving of mushy peas was huge, and my wife and I probably could’ve split one. Henry, our way to it was a delight. Some locals that have been coming there for years struck up a conversation with us from the next table, and we had a delightful conversation to go along with our meal. If you’re looking for fish and chips in the area, this one is a winner!
Not being local, I relied on a locals recommendation and I was not disappointed Friend and I ordered a meal and a drink each and that came in at less than £25 Fish and Chips, mushy peas were excellent, lovely, fresh hot and tasty and gorgeous big flakes of fish. Friend had the Seafood Platter and she said it was delicious! I went back the second time, Ordered Regular F&C other friend ordered Battered sausage So, to start with - we were seated right away upstairs, different staff each time, both equally lovely and efficient while taking orders, serving drinks then serving food Checked in on us and everything was lovely! The food was hot, fresh and incredibly tasty! I do understand the other reviews, because its just so busy, but we were happy to have a short wait for the food we got.
This is the smallest portion of chips I've ever had! Literally doesn't even cover the cardboard! These 2 portions of chips cost a whopping £6!!!! And the ketchup was 75p which I refused to purchase after seeing the size of the portion so went elsewhere for the ketchup. We asked politely if that really is the size of a portion of chips and the girls both looked just as disgusted by the size.. its not their fault but if the manager was there we would of asked for a refund! Only didnt because of the hassle and the fact it was paid on card. So disappointed as it never used to be this bad. Will never buy again
Best fish and chips in the world! Every trip to Plymouth it’s a must on multiple occasions. Both the Haddock and Cod are great choices.Food: 5/5
I cannot express how amazing the food is in this place! There's fish and chips and there is Harbourside fish and chips. It's like Gordon Ramsey decided to do a chippy. And to be quite honest with you. Fish wise, I've never tasted fish so moist and tender, with batter so crisp. It is divine. I'd just buy the cod to be honest. But the chips are also what you love in a traditional fish and chip shop. All other fish and chip shops are "meh" compared to this place. Simply outstanding. If your new to Plymouth or have a friend or family member visiting. Impress them by buying some fish and chips here! Worth every penny! Kid-friendliness: They have children meals available too. So my two kids enjoyed some chicken nuggets and chips. They shared the portion between them as they are both younger than 4. So one meal was enough for them both. Older children may need one meal each. But the portions are good.
Popped in while on the Barbican. They were busy but service was fast. Fair prices as fish was huge and we couldn't finish all the fish and chips. Also have a battered sausage each. On the recipient you are given and number which they call out when your order is ready. Best fish and chip shop on the Barbican. Photo taken from their website.
Prices have almost doubled in two years. Nearly £5 for a large chips is madness. Food is definitely good but at that price I'll visit one of the numerous other decent chip shops in the city. Also, the woman behind the till today was rude but this is not usually the case.Food: 4/5
Popped in here for fish and chips while visiting my daughter in Plymouth. I can honestly say it was the best fish and chips that I have ever tasted in 40 years! I would strongly recommend paying them a visit. If you choose to sit-in to eat, then you will receive the best service from a fish and chip shop, and enjoy the finest fresh fish and chips you could wish for.
Haddock was fine, chips a little dry. Great atmosphere.Food: 3/5
