With famous dishes like Redneck Ribs and Prawn Stars, Lone Star is family-friendly restaurant catering primarily to carnivores. Offering a good selection of dishes, it covers 100% grass-fed beef, lamb and venison, 100% free-range chicken plus pork and seafood. The food is no doubt tasty and the service is one of the best I've experienced for such a restaurant. The decor is decent too with fittings of typical rustic steakhouse. With other locations from Auckland to Invercargill, this place will not suit those on a tight budget but the portions are very reasonable. I certainly enjoyed my first experience here and I have no reservations in recommending the place for a family treat!
What a place for a meal. The facility itself is onpoint. The bar, the seating areas and of course the outstanding antler masterpiece lights. Everything inside is themed and well done. The staff are very friendly and extremely well trained. They greet you with their name and the same waitress will continually check in with you during your time there to ensure everything is going well. Those sensational ribs are just awesome and writing about them now just makes my mouth water. I'll be back for sure. Highly recommended.
It was a little on the pricey side for the quality of the food, which was just ok. Portion wise it was quite big. Service is good if you like it quite excessive, i felt like I was getting interrupted quite a bit.. but the atmosphere and vibe hasn't changed, still a good place to go for a casual but still classy meal
We went to Lone Star for a 21st and for the amount of people they catered for the quality of food and how fast efficient service was, it was outstanding!!!!!!! The ribs were delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly... I highly recommend
The food was tasty and plentiful love their fresh bread with garlic butter l but they didn't have several of the drinks we ordered from their menu. I suggest they either manage their stock better or update their drinks menu. Our waiter was very attentive and personable so full marks to him. It was my birthday and I had heard that I'd be entitled to a free dessert but it turned out that I could only choose the Pavlova for free despite the ice cream sundae I ordered costing less. Go figure??
The wait time to get a table was around 30 mins and then when we received our food, it was very tough and not pleasant. The flavours were good but ribs are meant to be fall off the bone tender, which these were not. Huge portions though.
Waited an hour for a table even through my friend reserved a table 4 days in advance. Waited another hour for meals to come . They seemed to have a lot of staff but that didn't help much, yes it was a busy night but I had no idea it will take 2 hours until we can start eating. I was starving. A young guy came up and said that he will be looking after our table I don't remember his name, but after saying to us the special menu and we asked him for some water for our table it took him 40 minutes to serve it to us after we requested it again... 2 guys were having ribs and the rest of us chicken. The meals were very nice and at a good price but when you get ribs you also expect to get a bowl of water to wash your hands which didn't follow, so we had to ask the waiter for some water, another 10 minutes got passed by the time we got it. Overall it was not a great experience as I was falling asleep by the time we finished our meals but I did enjoy the meal just as everyone else at the table.
On Sunday 26 October we took out of town visitors for dinner. We ordered bread - we had to ask for plates. No water was offered. When one member asked for a doggy bag all other plates were cleared and I was left still eating my meal! We were not asked if we wanted dessert. On Sunday 2 November we thought we would try again and took overseas visitors for dinner. Same story - no plates for the bread and there was no cutlery, we were not offered water. Diners should not have to ask for these things. We waited about 40 minutes for our main course. After asking two staff members for water it finally arrived when we had finished our main course. Again we were not offered dessert. Perhaps Lone Star does not want to encourage returning diners. I don't think we will be going back. Shame as the food is really nice. The staff could do with some training!
Great place for family dining. Menu covers most options, in "smaller" or standard servings. Kids menu popular in our family. Can get noisy but adds to atmosphere. Been here 8 times in 2 years and never disappointed.
I had a starter of salt and pepper squid as large as you would get for a main elsewhere and a dessert of brownie, along with a glass of wine. Good quality and excellent quick service from very pleasant waitress Grace. Would go again.
