I have visited all but 2 Speights Alehouses in NZ and have loved every single one.nnToday, I managed to tick off the second to last one - Invercargill.nnI am saddened to say that the staff at the Invercargill premises have let the brand down.nThis is my first negative experience.nThere were 4 messy tables when we walked in, and 2 staff members were behind the bar fluffing around.nWe weren't greeted until we said hello to one of the barmen ourselves.nWe were dining in. After waiting for a good 10 minutes to try to get someone's attention, we managed to order. The young lady didn't write our order down as it was very simple and basic.nOur meals came out reasonably fast, however mine was wrong and sent back.nThis meant that my partner ate his separately to me while I had to wait for mine to be cooked.nThe waiter did apologize for the error.nI found this Alehouse to be lacking the warm, inviting and attentive touch. The staff just seemed a little bit too young and not interested in providing friendly service.nSorry for the stink review, but this is an honest one in hopes that some hospitality training is given.nnThe food was niceish. Burger patty was really nice.nWe had to try to grab someone's attention to ask for sauce for our fries on our plates, which was out of the norm to not have that kind of condiment on the table already.
The staff were extremely helpful, restaurant was warm and amenities good. Well priced menu items which unfortunately was reflected in the quality of the full breakfast. The Speights breakfast was unbelievably disappointing, the eggs were hard, the bacon cold and blackened in places from a well used grill plate, as was the tomato, sausage was tasty but tough due to prolonged deep frying, and most unexpected was the use of some very very old mushrooms. The mushrooms were not only shrivelled but they still smelt bad even after cooking and plating. The bangers and creamy mash were good mash was creamy but sausage skin again tough and filling huge onion rings were great, the chicken wings were large crispy and without doubt the bell of the ball.
This is a great SPEIGHTS and worthy of benchmarking against. Hospitality is 10 out of 10, the staff are friendly, fun, know their menu and keep the table serviced. Dirty plates and glasses removed quickly, table was kept clear and we did not even notice it being done. Drinks were kept full and the full ribs are a feast. Well done.nPS Three separate evenings now, and the same exceptional service with great food
5 stars all the way for food, service and atmosphere. Invercargill might not offer much to some, but to us it's a great little spot. We were in town to look at the motorcycle museums which didn't disappoint us!nnWe stayed at The Langlands across the road and this looked a good option for a feed. Walking in on the ground floor was a mix of bar and seating for dinner with upstairs being a mezzanine floor with more seating for dinner.nnTheir choice of local beer covered most and trying a few I was impressed! I got the Stag main while partner got the seafood bowl, she was said it was amazing with the mix of seafood and sauce that had her saying 'wow' every bite! My vension...well, I'd have say it was cooked perfectly that if I used a spoon as a knife it still would have sliced through it.nnWill we be back next year, yes on our yearly travels we will be back. Give out thanks to the chef and kitchen staff for food that will have us coming back.nnThanks guys!
Really lovely place, great food and quite considerate with food allergys
