I am surprised to see quite a lot of negative reviews. Orakei Health is a great local doctors clinic. It's clean, professional, modern and really intertwined with the local community. The doctors, while do change more than many of us would prefer, are very good. The support staff are great. There are also plenty of extra services like mental health care in clinic and health coach etc. I think it's much better than other clinics in the Eastern Bays.
I have been enrolled in this practice for many years and have always been happy with the medical care I have received but sine they have changed the practice model I have decided to shift to another practice.Seems to me they have forgotten who their customers are as the service is appalling now.i visited last Wednesday and was able to see a nurse who told me I needed to see the Doctor and that they would phone me with a time to see the doctor.i am still waiting for that call.i left a voice mail message this morning and have not had a reply yet.i also asked for a copy of a receipt which they said the accountant would send through but alas haven't received this either.i am not surprised that they have lost a few excellent doctors recently. Patients deserve better service than what they are offered at present.
I had been putting off visiting, thinking they would be buried in covid cases, but booked in and was seen very quickly. If Jeff is the American guy , agree with last reviewer. First consultation in years . He listened carefully , told me likely problems, ordered tests. All in a very reassuring way. Nice to meet a doctor finally that behaves like you expect a doctor to act. Most of them draw a sketch if it's complicated, throw around latin terms until your eyes glaze over, and you walk out slightly confused, with a bunch of pills to keep you happy. He does the sketches, but acknowledges that you are likely to google it , gives you a good summary of problems you might have. Very methodical.
Used to be a really lovely practice, however since June they have been a walk in only clinic. I haven't needed to go to the doctor recently, so wasn't aware of it until now. When raising my concerns about this new development and how long it will continue, I was given hostility from the receptionist. In my latest phone in prescription refill, they forgot about it and I needed to call them when I hadn't gotten a text to pick it up. The ball and sadly fallen on this practice and I will be looking to enroll into a different one. Such a shame because it used to be such a warm, efficient place with lovely staff.
There are no queues due to the old reviews, when they had different staff. Very efficiently run , cheap and convenient. Jeff is an excellent doctor, very friendly and explains everything well.
I have been enrolled with them from many years, back when they had a clinic in Glen Innes. Staff in the reception is amazing. Doctors are really good too but in the last couples of months every time that I called for an appointment they are fully booked to the point that once I called a Monday at 8.10 am when they open 8 am and I have been told they were fully book for the entire week. In the last 4 months I could never get an appointment for the same week... so I have to go the the walk in clinic that they said on the phone that works from 8 to 12 am BUT actually they do not get any new people after 10.30 am. Well....last time I was there at 8 am for the walk in clinic and has to wait for more than 2 hours to be able to see a doctor. I think they should stopped enrolling new people while a go if they can no provide a fair service to the ones that they already have. I have now enroll somewhere else where I can actually use the service.
When this clinic opened it was by far one of the best in the Eastern Suburbs. Oh boy has it changed. Ever since they became a walk in clinic, everything has gone down. From staff to care, to even how receptionists handle questions. It’s a huge shame. Am looking for another GP service and would recommend others do so to if they are serious about their healthcare. Very poor service, care and practice.
Good medical center.. getting an appointment with our doctor here is always difficult and you would often get one a week or so out.. but now they have a walk in clinic every day til midday. That's been a great help. Nurses are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful too.
I went to the clinic to have ACC paperwork completed by a GP and it was my first visit. I immediately specified those two factors and they made me wait. After waiting, I saw one nurse who ended up calling her colleague to end up telling me they couldn’t do anything for me. Why make me wait and pay for a nurse consultation when nothing was done for me?? Very disappointing service and not helpful at all as they’ve told me to go to another clinic, why? I wasted my money and day off.
I was surprised to learn that service delivery has been redesigned from what is the standard kind of service from a practice of GPs, ie make an appointment, see your chosen doctor, establish an ongoing relationship and work together on health goals - to an ED model: no appointments, no choice of doctor, turn up when everyone else does and wait for an open ended length of time, then get triaged by a practice nurse and maybe see a doctor after that. It's a risky model and that is one of the reasons why the Health and Disability Commissioner's time is much taken by investigating things going wrong for patients in actual ED rooms at the hospital. One of the issues with triaging is how good or not the patient's communication skills are. So people who have barriers to communication - whether neurodiverse people or inarticulate people for various reasons ie second language, new immigrant, speech defects, social anxiety and so on - are the most likely to fall through the cracks of this flawed model. The lack of consistency seeing the same doctor also has risks for patients. There also could have been bottom up consultation with patients before this change was implemented, and at least some notice of it given to patients. But patients views were not sought, changes imposed in wholly one-sided manner, and patients discovered this only when they contacted reception themselves. If a medical practice can't consider how patients might be affected, then they aren't a truly safe provider.
