Fable Auckland. We spent a night away from home, being tourists in our own town, to celebrate our belated wedding anniversary and we chose a new hotel this time. New to us, but the actual hotel is the old historic building of the former Grand Windsor Hotel. Nicely decorated in the 1900 style with lovely contrasting colours, velvet and marble, patterned wallpaper and so on. We had peach and elderflower tea and coconut and lime cake at the reception when we checked in - it was heart warming and very tasty. We had a lovely dinner at the Cooke's restaurant in the hotel, with French inspired dishes, so small portions, but after 3 courses and wine I couldn't eat anything more. It was real fine dining with unexpected combinations of colourful, delicious ingredients. There were a couple of hiccups related to our jacuzzi booking and our room, but the young ladies at the reception were very apologetic and we ended up getting a room discount and our dinner drinks for free. So all in all it was a very good experience. I highly recommend this hotel if you want a very well located boutique accommodation for your holiday or a weekend away from home in Auckland city.
We just had a great stay, thank you so much :D we had a luxury king room for the night and it did feel very luxurious! The food was outstanding too! We had the steak and Lamb which were both cooked to perfection along with the potatoes and polenta chips. Everything was well worth the higher than average price point. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. Would recommend to anyone
I’ll start with the positive part. It’s a gorgeous little hotel that satisfies those with an eye for pretty things. Service at concierge/reception and the restaurant was also excellent. It was a nice touch to have complimentary tea and cake on arrival. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom beautiful and clean. The hotel is also very centrally located and within close walking distance to just about everywhere we wanted to visit. Noise levels at night was a real problem. Even with windows closed, sleep was frequently interrupted by sounds from the street clubs, drunken screaming. Not sure how to call it as 5 star.
Lovely place and awesome staff. Do not ask for a room that backs onto Fort Street. There is a pub/nightclub in this street that makes a lot of noise until 4am and there is no double glazing. We could hear the music, singing and laughing until 4am. It may be better in the middle of the Hotel however I probably won't stay there again to try & find out.
I’ve just stayed here with my partner for a night and it’s a mixed review from us. Incredible food, decor and room would recommend upgrading to a little for a bigger room, just about base line. However, where this hotel fell down for us was by far the customer service. The staff felt like they needed to be provided with training as to provide better service - both the restaurant and reception. We were disappointedly overcharged multiple times even with me being very detailed settling the final bill this was still incorrect. They staff did refund this house we the service was still disappointing. A few other points was in regard to the package we order not clearly staying the inclusive meals were on a limited menu and us not being notified our jacuzzi booking was cancelled. Great hotel with lots of possibility, just some more training would be beneficial.
Sadly a very poor experience at the Fable, we had been to the Dunedin Fable and were hopeful of an equally excellent experience, this was not to be. The noise from the nearby nightclubs was so excessive and we could only get to sleep at 4am when they closed. This seems to be a common complaint when i looked at other reviews, wish i had checked first. There are 5 star hotels all over the world in big cities who sound proof, this seems a priority! We had dinner at Cookes, I understand staff is an issue at the moment. Our entrees were forgotten, the main was delicious but after waiting an hour to have plates cleared and order dessert we gave up. There was plenty of wait staff, they just clearly had received poor or little training. Very disappointing experience.
Like others the down side is the noise in the evening- I had to keep the AC fan on to muffle it out a bit. Everything else was very nice. Comfy bed , nice bathroom and a very good shower. Conscious staff Breakfast was good and the service was very attentive. Great convenient location right next to the piers and downtown.Rooms: 4/5
The room was beautiful, comfortable and exactly what I was wanting. The bathroom was lovely too. The staff were very nice and helpful. I thought the website said there was an airport shuttle, but there isnt. They give details to a shuttle company that i tried and was completely full so had to uber. Why only 4 stars: The hallway to the room was extremely over-sprayed with some sort of musky perfume that was not pleasing at that strength/intensity. And i wanted to love the restaurant - the dinner i had was mouth watering amazing. The staff seemed a bit new… not bad but need some work on service. And when i tried to go for breakfast - which noted 6:30… they were really slow to serve anyone about 3-4others i saw …like they weren’t open just yet? Was confusing and walked out after 15 min of just waiting.
From the minute we walked in we had amazing customer service. Because our room hadn't been done when we arrived they up graded us to a superior queen room which was lovely. We had two dinners there one being for valentines day and all the staff were very professional friendly and helpful. We felt very spoilt as nothing was to much..
The Hotel looks fine, the staff is friendly. Sadly the housekeeping is not good. Our room was forgotten 3 out of 4 times. You are able to push a button if you wish a cleaning, which was permanently pushed. A cleaner was cleaning the room next to ours when we left with the sign on. As we returned many hours later, nothing sadly happened…
