We chose the W Hotel Darling Harbour to celebrate our wedding anniversary and our first time doing so with our children. While the hotel is modern, clean, and well-equipped, the overall experience felt underwhelming for a five-star property.nnDespite calling ahead to inform the hotel that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, there was no acknowledgment upon arrival. The check-in experience felt impersonal and more akin to a budget hotel, which was disappointing given the brand and price point.nnThe room itself was comfortable and had complete amenities. Highlights included a spacious walk-in wardrobe and a beautiful bathtub, which our kids especially enjoyed.nnWe had high hopes that the $60 buffet breakfast would elevate the experience, but unfortunately it was average. Some hot items, including the baked beans and sausages, were served cold and undercooked. Positives were the eggs cooked to order, decent coffee, and friendly breakfast service.nnOverall, the stay did not meet our expectations. Having stayed at several 4–5 star hotels, we felt the experience did not offer good value, particularly for families. We would likely choose alternatives such as Crown Towers in the future. Each to their own, but this property would not be our first choice.
Stayed here during our time in Sydney and the location was perfect for Darling Harbour everything was an easy walk and the views were fantastic. The rooftop pool area was great all be it encosed, bar outlooks over the harbour.nWe had a two‑bedroom suite which was large, bright, and extremely comfortable. Plenty of space to relax and ideal for a longer stay. Overall, a great base in Sydney and we would happily stay again.

Read more about the pool below.n- Fast WiFi.nnCONSn- I’ve stayed 5 times now and each time, the service from the front desk and guest services is slow and messy. I’d estimate you’d need to allow 20 mins to complete the check in process. I had the misfortune of being double charged for my stay as the front desk agent on check in didn’t pay attention to the reservation’s billing details. It was instantly fixed when I mentioned the oversight, but took even more time and it was disappointing for a 5 star hotel suggestion to hotel management is to provide your team members with adequate training.n- There are two pools. A smaller indoors one, open 24 hours. And the rooftop, open air one which you’ll see in every promotional photo. The rooftop is incredible but owing to its popularity, gets crowded.n- For those who like to sleep in darkness, there are some lights and switches around the room which stay lit up. Suggest you bring an eye mask if random lights across the room bother you when trying to sleep.
W Hotel Sydney needs more people like Keena, the Food & Beverage Coordinator. Guest relations overall were fairly average, but Keena is truly next level. We got to know her a little better and learned she’s from Thailand — and it shows. That genuine hospitality is clearly in her DNA.nnFor a moment, she made us feel like we were staying at a luxury resort in Thailand. She made us feel special, which is something you naturally expect when you spend a significant amount of money on a New Year’s Eve stay.nnThe hotel rooms themselves are amazing. However, the pool and most restaurants are quite average, with the exception of the main restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, and the à la carte dinner menu is very reasonably priced with genuinely delicious food.nnHousekeeping, unfortunately, needs improvement. It was extremely average, especially in the common areas. That said, the rooms themselves were clean and we had no complaints there.nnOverall, a beautiful hotel elevated significantly by standout staff like Keena.
nI had an amazing stay at W Hotel. The customer service was spectacular, especially from the reception staff—Moses, who went above and beyond to help us. He even gave us extra support and a lovely compliment, which made my birthday feel truly special.nnThe room was elegant and the view was absolutely stunning. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I stayed with my girlfriend, and she loved everything as well. We will definitely come back to celebrate another special occasion together.
