T.C. Sidney Başkonsolosluğu, Türkiye ile Avustralya arasında 1967 yılında diplomatik ilişkilerin kurulmasını takiben 1969 yılında hizmete açılmıştır.
Bünyesinde Ticaret Ataşeliği, Eğitim Ataşeliği, İdari ve Sosyal İşler Ataşeliği bulunan Başkonsolosluğumuz 25 kişilik kadrosuyla hizmet vermektedir. Başkonsolosluğumuz idari açıdan Kanberra Büyükelçilimize bağlı olarak faaliyet göstermektedir.
Başkonsolosluğumuz ile ülkemizin Avustralya’daki diğer konsüler temsilciliği olan Melburn Başkonsolosluğu arasında, vatandaşlarımız ile yabancılara sunulan konsolosluk hizmetleri açısından, eyalet bazında bir görev paylaşımı sözkonusudur.
Başkonsolosluğumuz görev çevresi, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia ve Tasmania eyaletleri hariç tüm Avustralya’dır. Bu dört eyalet ise Melburn Başkonsolosluğumuz görev bölgesinde bulunmaktadır.
