About

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer. Frank Zappa

great bar, good staff too, everyone is pretty tolerant. Just keep the noise down after 11, walls are paper thin and you arent gonna get by without earplugs here. but the common area is the best ive seen in a hostel. really warm and homey with great ginger beer for sale at the same price as the liquor store across the street. Some hostels thrive on getting everyone hammered 24/7 and being in a cool location - this place just exists. I however would have given 4 stars due to the rooms if I hadn't seen the property manager seeing to it that new paint and photos were being put up on the inside and outside of the building. The reverence for an older property like this one tells me that these guys know what their doing, purchased a T-Shirt and was on my way... Oh, also to anyone reading this - I left 3 pairs of glasses in my room there. Nothing too expensive, but just save em for the next time I come back ;)

Good hostel! We all love frogs and green is of course the best colour but the hostel has more to offer. Barista coffee, parking spots and excellent dorms. You won't regret staying here!

Enjoyed my stay at this hostel. Clean facilities, great atmosphere with the benefit of spacious & tidy rooms. I would happily recommend this hostel to anyone looking to stay in Hobart. On the plus side, if you don't clean up your dishes the staff play Justin Bieber, deliberately. Great chat! Clean up your dishes, folks!

A hostel, to me, is a nice place that ends up being surprisingly cheap because 4 to 12 people share the price of the room. The Pickled Frog on the other hand is a bit deceptive. The pictures are misleading as you can't really see the place is old and not really clean (I have seen the cleaning lady around everyday, but I have also seen the same wet paper stuck on the bathroom floor during my whole stay..) The two stars go to the staff who is really awesome, welcoming, professional, offer good suggestions, solutions, create a nice vibe AND they remember and call you by your name, which is really nice. Imo, money needs to be invested to fix the holes in the carpet, or to replace the couches, fix the flooring, repaint the walls, but this is not likely to happen if most people still think a hostel is a shabby place that you obviously pay cheap because it's shabby..

The Pickled Frog is a wonderful hostel with tons of character. The staff, particularly Deano, were so helpful to me not only during my stay but also 6 weeks later when I needed them to provide me with invoices for my stay due to a car accident. They've got a great selection of tea, a bar, a big common area with movies and a huge tv, a big kitchen, the water is very hot, and best of all, all the noise from downstairs does not carry into the upstairs accommodation when you're ready to sleep. It was a lovely place to stay and next time I visit Hobart, I'll be staying there again. Thanks, Frogonians!
