Upon arrival at 11am on day of check in we were made to feel unwelcome and an inconvenience to the front desk and concierge for trying to leave luggage. Gentleman on concierge said “it’s a bit early” when we asked to leave our bags at 11am. It felt like our age and dress suggested we were not welcome to such a “prestigious” venue. When we later arrived to check in the receptionist was very welcoming and very helpful. Upon entering the room we were very disappointed with the overall quality of the decor of the bedroom and bathroom. There was a gap in the entrance door allowing lots of noise through, the bathroom was verging on unacceptable for a budget hotel let alone a luxury stay. The bathroom taps leaked throughout the duration and mastering the shower mixer between scalding and icy cold required the hands of a surgeon. The bed was very comfortable and did help for a good sleep, however we were awoken throughout the night due to people walking the corridor. After checking out we again needed to leave our bags with concierge for the day which felt like a burden for the team after we waited for 5 minutes for someone to help.nnOverall this was a very disappointing stay for the price charged and the expectation of a luxury hotel. The location and the exterior of the hotel are fantastic but the staff and interior massively let it down. What may have been a luxury stay in the 90s is crying out for a modern overhaul and a smile.
Wonderful hotel for the position, and also for its history. Rooms are very large, with a very pleasant changing room, but need some refreshment. I stayed twice in the last three weeks, and in both cases check in was too long and rooms were not ready. First check in was at 11:00 second was at 14:30. WiFi exists but doesn't work. Excellent breakfast.
I was really disappointed by The Windsor as a 5 star hotel. The welcome was definitely on the grumpier side of things. The room was really shabby with draws not closing, kettles and irons not working. The air conditioning was effective but noisy. The water system appears to rattle in the night. However, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was large. I know the hotel promotes itself on historical charm but it needs to underpin it with great customer service and a better presented hotel.
We have always loved The Hotel Windsor. It has soul or atmosphere or an old world elegance about it that has always appealed to us. We were warmly welcomed by the front desk staff. As we were staying for 5 days we lashed out on one of their Windsor Suites which did not disappoint. It was the perfect home away from home and a good starting point from which we were able to walk to the various shows we attended and view some of Melbourne. Breakfast in the dining room was a great way to start the day. Room service for a couple of the evenings was prompt and perfect, delivered by personable and amiable staff. The High Tea on Sunday was very enjoyable and since we attended the 2.30pm sitting ensured that there was no need for another meal that evening as there was such a variety of sweets and savouries to partake. Just walking down the elegant centre staircase each day or strolling through the hallways were experiences to be enjoyed. What can I say...we love The Hotel Windsor.
It didn't feel like a 5-star hotel. Yesterday, the weather was 40 degrees, so I wanted to check in a bit earlier, but the woman at the reception desk inside without any explanation spoke in a rather unfriendly tone and told me to leave my luggage and come back at 3 PM. It also took a long time to check in because they struggled to find my name saying there were many people with the same last name.nnThe room itself was so poorly maintained that I couldn't tell if it was a hotel or not. Even though it's a heritage building the interior and service made it hard to believe it was a 5-star hotel.nnHowever, I appreciated the porter and reception staff who worked diligently during the early morning hours which allowed me to leave on a more positive note this morning.
