I recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, it was not exactly a good experience. Right from the start, the carpets in the hallways and room were dirty and had a strange smell that made the place feel very unclean.nnThe room itself wasn't much better — it clearly hadn't been properly cleaned. I found hair everywhere, which was really off-putting.nnTo make matters worse, the air conditioning wasn’t working. I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. I called the concierge for help, and they brought us a standing fan, but honestly, it didn’t make much of a difference. It was still incredibly hot and uncomfortable.nnOverall, I expected much better for the price and reputation of this hotel. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless they make some serious improvements.
A good thing was the beds, extremely comfortable. The room was obviously well cleaned and the cleaning team excellent at their job. Brilliant location, I could walk everywhere and generally only took me half an hour or so to walk to a good location for food.nThe bad: there were around 5 light globes blown in the room, already like that when I got there. I wasn’t in my room enough to call maintenance unfortunately, though I would have thought the cleaning team might have noticed as I deliberately left the curtains closed. The water pipes rattle terribly in the bathroom taps, and I could hear the neighbouring room’s as well. When the neighbours ran a bath the pipes actually squealed. I could also hear the people next door talking quite clearly and their activities were extraordinarily loud indicating the walls were quite thin, not something I’ve experienced in other hotels in a premium room. More what I’d expect in a cheaper hotel. I’m sure the hotel wasn’t once like that, it appears to have gone downhill a bit.
On the first day of Easter, only 1 person was doing check-in. Waited 40 mins for check-in, understood it was busy but still felt bad.nReally Poor room cleaning, no daily cleaning, no bottled water provided. They even left other room's towel in our room cuz our towel wasn't used.nBook the car park for 3 nights, the reception only charged 2 nights, I had to pay the hourly rate on the third day. When you were at the exit of the parking and realised they charged you wrong, there was no way to go back to the lobby and complain.nBAD WIFI, unstable and easy to be disconnected.
Mercure has a great location right next to Albert Park. After my long flight from Los Angeles, a quick run in the mild evening sun was great to shake off the jet lag and have a great night sleep. The rooms was good, the bed was comfortable, I really liked the water pressure in the shower, the desk was good to work at. Outside the room, the hotel lobby is spacious with plenty of space to work, get a drink at the bar, or a cup of coffee at the cafe at the property. The only two hiccups were: the wifi was spotty at times, and the room lacked a microwave. However, those are minor points, and I will recommend staying here.
The absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed at! I don’t even know where to begin.nValet parking…. No one was there to greet us we had no idea what to do with the car or the key.nCheck in was slow and no information was given on where the amenities are, pool. Gym, lifts to the rooms, where to go for breakfast in the morning… absolutely no information was given and lifts aren’t marked with info either so the only way to find out is to ask around.nnThe rooms are very old and out dated hair in the bath upon arrival, only one pillow per person, tried to ring house keeping 10 times, concierge multiple times no one answers the phone! Had 2 rooms with 8 people asked for 8 pillows as we are all 2 pillow sleepers but they finally came and only had 4 and said that’s all the spare pillows they can find and said they will deliver more tomorrow??? But we are departing so there is no point.nNo conditioner in any of the bathrooms only shampoo and body wash,nnTried to order room service no answer!!! Kept going to voicemail!nThe pool is freezing absolutely not heated!nnNOW FOR THE WORST PART!!!! AN EMPLOYEE WAS TAKING A SHOWER AT 1.30am DIDNT TURN ON THE EXHAUST FAN WHICH CAUSED THE ENTIRE HOTEL EVACUATE AND THE FIRE BRIGADE TO COME! All due to the carelessness of ONE EMPLOYEE! NOT ONE MEMEBER OF THE HOTEL CAME OUT TO INFORM ANY OF THE HOTEL GUESTS WHAT WAS HAPPENING WE HAD TO APPROACH THE FIREMAN OURSELVES! No hotel employees were anywhere to be seen
