Very convenient location when the conference I was attended was located at the same venue. The rooms however, are very dated and the air conditioning does not work very well. The bed was very comfy and the staff were very helpful and lovely. Would have been perfect if the aircon had been working.
The staff was actually great and really helpful through the stay and I would have given 5 stars however my checkout experience was very rude. There was only one receptionist, and the concierge man of Asian descent told me to wait in line. He then proceeded to help the men that arrived after me to check out. I asked him why he didn’t help me check out and he said I didn’t ask, which I clearly did. I don’t know if this was a woman issue but the reception should be first come first serve.
While the hotel offers a convenient location, friendly staff, and a good breakfast and dinner selection, the poor room maintenance and inconsistent servicing significantly impacted the overall experience.nnPositives:nnExcellent location.nEnjoyed the buffet breakfast and the new dinner menu at Windows Restaurant.nFriendly and helpful reception staff.nEfficient check-in and check-out process.nGenerously sized room.nnNegatives:nnThe lift and lift lobby area in Mercure Tower 2 felt very dated and poorly maintained.nnRoom maintenance was below standard. My safe wasn’t working; after replacing the battery, the maintenance team discovered the battery cover was missing and secured it with black tape. My colleague’s safe also failed and had to be replaced.nnThe ironing board was extremely worn out—the foam beneath the cover had disintegrated, leaving yellow bits. I used it to iron a black dress for an evening reception, which ended up with unwanted lines and mesh patterns from the ironing board due to the poor condition. I asked for a replace ironing board which was no better.nnRoom servicing was inconsistent:nnDay 1: Bed made, rubbish not removed.nDay 2: Bed made, towels changed, but teacup not cleaned/replaced and no tea bag replenishment.nDay 3: My personal non-disposable shower cap was mistakenly discarded, bathmat removed with no replacement, and again no tea bag replenishment.nnThe wardrobe was dusty, including a layer of dust on top of the safe inside.nnAll lighting in the room was manual, which felt outdated.nnOverall:nnFor a 4-star hotel, the lack of maintenance and inconsistent room servicing were a bit disappointing. Thankfully, I spent minimal time in the room due to a busy conference schedule.
Unlike the fancy entrance and some friendly reception staff, I was shocked to be placed in one of the rooms in tower 1 with my wide window opening to a concrete wall so dark and no view literally looked like a jail, so I had to keep the blinds shut the entire time not to be affected. Cleanliness was average, swimming pool not so clean, several spots with collected hair on the ground which was yuck. Staff serving the breakfast not so helpful and charged us $38 pp and when I checked with reception, they changed it to $25 as for hotelguests they have different rate. Variety of buffet was great though. Location wise it was very very far from CBD so had to take the tram to city with 20-30min distance. Bar had limited food options for dinner with no options available as GF.will I go back there again? I don’t think so.
The room was spacious for a standard king room. Unfortunately there was mould on the roof of the shower and we were not provided with a spare blanket in the room and we only had 2 pillows usually there are 4 so we had to call down for more.nThere was a weird piece of trash in the room that must have been missed when it was cleaned.nOverall the room was sufficient for our short holiday as we only needed a place to sleep and shower.nIf it wasn't for the mouldy bathroom we could have easily overlooked the other small points since we got the cheapest room, but it definitely did not meet the 4 star rating. A 3 star rating is more fitting.nThe concierge staff were very friendly and held our luggage for a few hours after checkout.nWe also booked through Qantas holiday packages where despite combing through the terms and conditions and info on the Mercure website, we couldn't confirm if a deposit was required and how much it might be. We were required to provide a $150 deposit, and just wish that information was clearer before arriving so we could better plan for how much the deposit would be.nThe Mercure is in the same building as the Pullman hotel and use the same concierge and room service menu.
