Came for the steak night and they had sold out of the good cut. Staff were very friendly and service was good.nnI ended up getting a cheeseburger because even though it was steak night, the specials were pretty pricey.nnThe burger tasted good. It was tiny though. Literally about the size of a double cheeseburger from HJ or Maccas. Came with a small cup of chips, for 28 bucks.nnI don't think it represents good value.nnSchooner of post mix, 7 bucks. I mean, I know the price of stuff has gone up but it's just not cost effective night out.nnIt does have nice atmosphere, it's clean and the staff are nice. It's nicer than your average pub.
Really enjoyed our meal at the Courthouse Hotel. One of the Melbourne pubs with the best food. Started with the kangaroo carpaccio and cod roe — both absolutely delicious. For mains, the chicken schnitzel was beautifully cooked with gravy and a tasty broccoli coleslaw, and the slow-cooked lamb shoulder was simply scrumptious. Excellent wines, attentive and pleasant staff, and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
My daughter and I went to the Courthouse in North Melbourne the other day for lunch Sun , she has been here many times before and always enjoys it. We sat outside as we had our little dog with us. We looked well over the great menu and decided we both wanted to try their Roast Beef which we were excited about, we also ordered a chicken type entree which was delicious. Now they did explain to me on ordering the Roast Beef that it comes out medium rare and they said they can cook it a little longer should we prefer it medium or more, now I do know some chefs / cook have a different interpretation on what medium rare is, some are more medium and some are more rarer, its so hard to get it right to everyone's personal liking, I get that, so I did say medium rare is fine for us both as this is how we prefer our meat anyway but it was good they gave people the choice . Our meals came out, wasn't a long wait which was good, but my only disappointment was that my meat was more blue, couldn't even class it as rare, my daughters on the other hand was more on the medium rare side, so we swapped plates anyway as I can't eat mine as raw as she can, and it was definitely blue, not even rare. My cut must have been cut more from the centre of the roast and hers more from the outer edges I'm a beef farmers daughter so definitely know my meat and how to cook it but with Roast its different as its thicker in some parts and not in others, now I could have sent it back but I didn't, so that was my fault. I didn't take a picture of the meat I originally got as my daughter had already started eating when I got up to get more drinks, so you could see how blue it really was. I did however take a picture of the medium rare one I swapped with my daughter. Anyway they were nice thick pieces of meat and the added Yorkshire Pudding on the plate was a nice touch which soaks up all the delicious gravy. After we ate our lunch we went inside into the public bar bit where you can take dogs also and we sat in there and had a couple of cocktails which were very enjoyable. It was a great afternoon, really good atmosphere too and lovely staff. Note to self, that if i do order the Roast again I will get them to just sear it a little more or pop it back in the oven for a few minutes longer.
Very cute spot for a cozy dining experience in North Melbourne — not your typical hotel restaurant.nThe friendly staff even provided us with a little binocular-style light to help read the menu and recommended the perfect wine pairings for our dishes.nWe ordered the Marinated Olives $9, Pickled Octopus $12, Grilled Snapper $40, and the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder $42.nThe food was very tasty, and we loved the overall experience.nDefinitely coming back again.
In general was a great experience, the Hazy Pale was on spot, the octopus was yummy and rich in flavour, we order the steak of the day medium rare perfect and the cheese burger, that was very tasty too.nnOverall it was a fantastic lunch.
