Story

Tequila Joe’s is a rockin’ Cocktail Bar and Mexican Restaurant in Wellington, located just off Tory Street in the Entertainment district of the Capital City.

We serve up Wellington's favourite Mexican Food right in front of your eyes in our open kitchen. We use top notch ingredients imported from Mexico and America, as well as local meat and produce to create a Mexican experience like no other! So put on your Sombreros and Cowgirl Hats and head down to TJ's (we provide the hats if you don't).

It doesn’t stop there – Tequila Joe’s Cocktail Bar and Mexican Restaurant is a great place to see and be seen in Te Aro. It's the perfect starting point where you load up on fun, and then hit Courtney Place a block away for a boogie after.

The flavour explosion of our Mexican Food carries over into our love of Cocktails. Delicious range of the biggest Margarita's in town, party punch cocktail jugs, and two refreshing Sangria choices.

For Mexican beer lovers, choose from modern Craft Beers and old school classic pale lagers and ales.

Went there for Taco Thursday all you can eat taco + drink deal. Ordered the vegetarian option. It was pretty simple in terms of flavor not bad. After 5 tacos I felt full so pretty decent deal! Also there was a variety of taco's that were given to us. The service was quick efficient, friendly staff, and quick food rounds!
It really is the best Mexican! They were very busy, yet I was served and seated straight away. I was given enough time to decide my meal and the drink came very fast. I had the fish tacos and they were the best I’ve had in the north island! Definitely worth checking out if you have cravings for Mexican and want to dine in a place that has great service and good vibes, not just excellent food.
Great buzzy vibe. Was a queue out the door tonight. We squeezed into the last two seats available and went for the all you can eat chicken wings and free Baja fries. The baskets of chicken wings just kept coming. Spicy then milder alternating... we had to admit defeat by the fith basket of chicken wings and second of fries... Was fun. Service was great, attentive and zippy. Huge selection of decent tequila Left happy and like we had an experience. Reccomend.
We often come here for the all you can eat Taco nights! Worth the price, the tacos are fine but you lose some of the trimmings due to that. Their regular menu looks better so might give that a shot and will re-evaluate. They have one service staff member who is excellent, without them it's not as friendly but they still do a good job! Would recommend for a group. The drinks are yummy!
Wing Wednesday is just the best idea. Such good flavour, service was perfect. Friendly and inviting, really enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend.
Great food and staff were friendly and onto it. The prices were reasonable too. Only thought was that the music was quite loud, which made catching up with friends a little harder. Still, I would definitely go back for all you can eat Tacos!!
Had the $29 all you can eat tacos. It was mainly tortillas with a tiny bit of meat and a sprinkle of greenery. The contents were soooo small compared to the taco size you could have ripped the taco in half and still had a small bite to eat. If you want to fill people up instead of doing it on bread, just add some more greenery and a sauce. I have never had a taco that had no salsa. Gluten Free people - forget about it. The tortillas were store brought and didn’t taste nice because they are not heated. Frozen Margaritas were average with very little tequila. I wouldn’t eat here again. 2 star because staff were polite and service was good. Dietary restrictions: Give it a miss if you are a coeliac.
Was looking forward to having my birthday dinner here for months, specifically for the all you can eat wings on a Wednesday. Made a booking for ten people. The morning of, I get a call to say they are not doing all you can eat wings that day as they couldn’t get delivery of the wings. I understand supply issues, sometimes there is nothing you can do. However I asked if they could substitute all you can eat tacos instead which they do on Tuesdays and Thursdays or offer some sort of discount and they said no, they had nothing to offer to make up for the cancellation of the wings deal. Now I understand the wings not being available because sometimes these things happen, but as they say ‘it’s the putting right that counts’ and it was well within their power to offer me some alternative deal as an apology and they chose not to do so. I cancelled my booking and thankfully another restaurant took our party instead. Very disappointing customer service.
The food was nice, well cooked and presented beautifully but some of it was prepackaged and not made on site which was disappointing. Staff were lovely and attentive and the margaritas and sangria were
Wonderful food. Really generous portions but super tasty. Lots of great flavors. Gotta try it!
