A cosy craft beer bar, with amazing food to match, nestled in Mt Vic, Wellington, NZ

Story

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of town, the Hop Garden is only 2 mins away from Courtney place but has a totally different attitude to the main drag. We have 12 taps pouring craft beer, an extensive wine list and serve both casual bar food all day and main meals in our 50 seat restaurant at night. Relaxed and unpretentious, any one is welcome down for a drink, a bite to eat and a chat!

I really enjoyed my visit to the Hop Garden. We went on a beautiful summers day and say upstairs at the roof top garden. It was well shaded from the sun but still allowed a beautiful breeze to pass. The service was friendly and efficient. Inside it had a neat cave type feel. They also have a great snacks menu

DO NOT BOOK A FUNCTION HERE. Really horrible service. Previous good reviews were possibly for previous ownership. Current Owner was very rude and bossy. We had email correspondence (4 emails) and mentioned our method of payment to which no limit was mentioned, only to have a limit imposed on us at time of payment. Very unprofessional. Good selection of beers but you can get that at multiple locations in Wellington with much better service. Only come here if you enjoy rude service and mediocre atmosphere. We had 40 people and were treated rudely. I genuinely hope this bar closes down or better still changes ownership, it's a disgrace to Wellingtons excellent craft beer scene. Don't be fooled, go elsewhere.

Nice place. Good with the summer sun upstairs. Very relaxed. Near KFC so the inviting smells drift to the rooftop bar. Gin bar upstairs. Went just before Christmas and a few people without shoes was not out of place. A little walk from the night life of Courtney place so a fringe bar to the city centre. Of what I saw of the dinner menu it looked good.

Really terrible service at this place. Very nice atmosphere but the food we ordered never arrived and 45 minutes later when we asked about it we were told the order hadn't been processed. No attempt to rectify the problem, spoke to the manager and all we got was 'very sorry'. We're told that if we reordered it would be at least 20 mins for the bar snacks menu. Paid for our drinks and left very hungry. Won't be back.

Fantastic place! Held our daughter's 21st there. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Loved the gin bar! Very cool place.
