We stayed in a Waterfront Spa Villa. The setting was beautiful but the cabin felt a bit shabby and there was an unpleasant smell. Room seemed overpriced for what it was. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed seeing wildlife around. Place seems more geared towards families with kids.Rooms: 3/5
Happy New! Year! To all the team at Grindelwald. Thanks for making my Christmas with my Friend most m memorable! The Christmas spread at Alpenrose was outstanding! The bed was so soft and Comfy! The lake view from our room was so tranquil. Thank you Nicola for your Lovely hospitality on arrival, and shifting a few dates around that I had to change and how you handled my booking? applying your manageress discount to our stay Very Best Wishes to you in this New Year.
My second trip to Grindelwald and this time it was inside the hotel. The rooms are neat and clean. Good thing is that each room has one double and one single bed so if you are a family of three you don’t have to ask for a spare bed or an extra room that saves a cost. We are on a professional development course so got an opportunity to enjoy the three course meal with morning and afternoon tea. The Geneva room could be a good place to organise courses and conferences for up to 20-40 people. Facilities are good you can get a lectern, projector and screen. Tea and coffee setup for the conference and be near the lobby. If you are gluten free, you might not get too many option for the afternoon tea snacks. The breakfast was pretty standard. Nothing extraordinary. Salmon in the dinner was a favourite. There are a couple of meeting rooms for multiple occasion so that’s good. A small bakery inside the resort is handy. You can get your favourite coffee or chai from there.
Pulled into the resort to be met by a sign at reception stating “we are under staffed please be patient”. Hmm we have paid nearly $300 a night for one of their best rooms, not what we wanted to see straight up. Our room was clean and had everything we needed, but was quite dated. Balcony was old and worn, but the view of the lake was excellent. The TV was so small it was the size of my computer monitor, so we ended up watching movies on the bed on my laptop. Went to the gym and the pool. The gym was well set up with enough equipment to get a good workout. The pool area would have been amazing 30 years ago when built, but again in need of renovation. The spa was another story. Looked in and the bottom and sides were stained green. Would not advise putting your head under that water. Checked out the little village with a few shops, restaurant, and bar area. The restaurant and bar were nice and probably the only facilities that were up to date. On our second day we started to notice the lack of staff. Let me say the staff were the main reason this rating was not even lower, as they tried their best. They were all friendly and helpful, but clearly stressed from being under resourced. The pinnacle was ordering room service one night only to be told we would have to pick it up ourselves as they did not have anyone to deliver it. What? That is not room service. Told them to forget and just had snacks for dinner. All in all, $300 a night was not justified for the standard of facilities and services delivered. Stay somewhere else an get what you pay for.
Great staff and loved our little room overlooking the lake! The grounds are feeling somewhat neglected now and the “Swiss village” is cute in photos but the actual shops are lame. Icecream was no better than coles and the lolly shop was so expensive and the lady working was watching us like we were return criminals!! Very off putting 10 years ago this place was great … maybe time to spend some money and make it great again
Golf course is in a state of disrepair, in absolutely terrible condition. I was charged $38 for my junior son and I. Wouldn’t play there if it was for free. Only positive is we had the course to ourselves as nobody else is as gullible as us. I suggest turning it into a motocross track as that’s all it’s good for.Rooms: 1/5
We had low expectations based on previous reviews however unfortunately we were still left disappointed after discovering broken door handles, stained sheets, exposed batteries in the TV remote, chipped paint, a long strand of hair in the supposedly clean toilet accompanied by an empty toilet roll beside the toilet. Any positives such as the beautiful surroundings and kids’ activities were far outweighed by the outdated cabin in which we stayed. We were also disappointed to find the bouncing pillows had been deflated and apparently a playground will be built instead but it would have been nice to have been informed in advance. Given that we paid $560 for two nights, we felt it really needs a good revamp to be charging this sort of money and we won’t be returning.
We chose this town because it was a fun extra stop on our trip. The rooms were great but the service was sub-par. The restaurant was overpriced and very depressing so we went elsewhere but overall was a good experience.Rooms: 5/5
Although rooms are very clean, beds very comfortable, the couch needs re springing. Outside chairs more comfy to sit on than couch. ‍Rooms: 3/5
Grindelwald, an interesting place. Sadly, I was allocated challet 505 where there was no working shower or got water. Breakfast was a disaster. There was nothing left and no one was paying attention to this. People were left waiting for 30 mins. Bar staff, is another area for concern. Only one chap to serve 30 people. More staff and more attention to detail. Rooms: Room was basic with really hard pillows. Travelling tip, bring your own pillow.
