I have never experienced such lack of service and in fact, I was made to feel unwelcome and an inconvenience when I visited the store at 4.00pm last Sunday. Having seen the sign earlier on the window which read they were open until 5pm, I headed down specifically to purchase a pair of shoes I had had my heart on for a few weeks, but hadn't been able to get to the store. There was in fact 2 pairs I was hoping to purchase that day for my impending trip abroad. When walked in I received a very frosty reception, and a cold statement of "we are closed". I looked at the time and asked if there was a mistake and was told its not their fault it has been quiet and they were advised to close. They were clearly over being there. I advised them I had specifically come in to make a purchase and eyes were rolled when I asked if I could just try on the pair I liked ad wanted to purchase. Then another customer came in and the sales person again got huffy, actually rolled her eyes again and made a nasty comment and the lady who walked in looked at me confused. I informed her they were closing. She was noticeably upset, as she had also made a special trip. We both walked out quite shocked and angry. Don't think she will be returning either. I am a local and have bought from this store before and brought my friends in who have purchased and jokingly cursed me for it, as well as my own Mother . I was actually great PR. After this experience, I wont be going back. I worked in retail for years whilst studying and if I had a quiet day and someone came in even after hours hoping to buy, I would jump at the opportunity, That is called job integrity and customer service and brought customers back. This was the complete opposite.

There is no where else in Melbourne to find such an extensive collection of fashionable, yet super comfortable European footwear. The service is always excellent. The staff are very attentive and helpful. I cannot recommend Step Ahead Shoes highly enough!

When I am looking for shoes I always visit Step ahead in Glenhuntly Road Elsternwick. They have a fabulous range of exclusive Spanish and Italian shoes, sandals and boots. Wonders are unique brand made in Spain and other brand Step Ahead carry are Bosari an Italian brand. The staff are very helpful and you are able to get shoes that you will not find anywhere else. If you cannot find a shoe to suit the staff help you find one that will suit your foot. Thanks Julie for your all your help! Sue
