What’s next? This my question when I enter the store. I am on the mission to try everything what this shop has to offer. I manage to nearly complete what’s on the front display and slowly moving onto then cake section. Most of the staff know what I am doing and they are great at assisting while they have a good chuckle about it. So far no disappointment. The poppy seed filled pastries -any kind - are my favorites and they are the best in town - believe me I’ve tried many. Always looking if there is parking when I pass by. If there is - well there is no excuse for not to stop.
AVIV Cakes and Bagels at Elsternwick Visited on 19/2/2022 AVIV is not close to home, however it is worth the trip to buy a few pieces for afternoon tea, or served as desserts after dinner. The window display is a bit of disappointment. If a passer-by does not know about its product will not stop and check out this gem. My wife and I order the following: Spinach Quiche Vegetable Quiche Raspberry Friand Babka Isreali Vanillia Slices The quiches have good amount of vegetable fillings, baked with the smooth savoury custard in the pastry case. A couple of quiches can be a meal for the day. The Raspberry Friand is a bit sweet for me. The filling looks baked cheese cake, but in fact it is almond meal. This is the first time I have Chocolate Babka Isreali. Babka is made of a rich brioche dough, light and not not doughy like normal bread. The filling is a real test of a good Vanilla slice. The pastry cream or creme patissiere must be flavoured by vanilla pod, light yellow colout, and slightly thick and not runny. We give cakes and pastries we have eaten thumbs-up.
I love the variety, selection and quality of food at Aviv. There's a good mix of savoury and sweet items, and you can always find something to buy to satisfy a craving or to organise a work lunch/party or whatever. Their bagels aren't my favourite, but they have great quiches, and often at work we get their cakes for various occasions and they never disappoint. However ... with all of that said, the only real negative I can say is that they are a tad overpriced and to me, it lets them down. I also happened to buy a birthday cake, a mini quiche and a cookie and I had some sticker shock for sure. When the cookie was rung up and it said $5, I thought that was the mini quiche and cookie added up together. So that day I spent $51 and when I was leaving, I asked if there was a bag to put the cake in. The only bags were the cloth ones, and they were going to charge me .50c for one when I just spent $51. I had to do a whole separate transaction on EFT-POS just to pay for this .50c bag. I feel that not only are they a bit overpriced, but they need to use common sense when charging for a bag after someone has spent a certain amount. It's a bit off putting, however I'm sure the lure of their bubka the best I've ever eaten anywhere will get me back there eventually down the road ...
A few great treats, some savory, some sweet. We had some quiches, some savory trinagles followed by a sweet puff-pastry treat filled with chees-cake filling. There is a selection of about 3 or 4 type of quiches, and about the same variety of savory triangles.
apple strudel chocolate babka spinach quiche almond danish almond croissant : @avivcakes : Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick : Since Aviv Cakes and Bagels was so highly recommended by @hello.imnikki , I couldn’t help but to head there for their bakeries. And since Nikki recommended literally EVERYTHING, I kind of got carried away and bought way more than ai planned to, which I don’t regret. : Absolutely loved the Chocolate Babka, so rich in flavor and perfect in texture. The Spinach Quiche was creamy and super tasty, especially when served steaming hot from the oven. There’s an endless range of bakeries to try here so will definitely have to go back again.
Amazing cakes and pastries! I've been going here for years and their cakes are always high quality. The William Pear Torte is a favourite of mine and my family; we always get it for celebrations! I've tried their vanilla slices and quiches and they are both delicious. My only criticism is that the pastry on the vanilla slice is very thick which makes it a little difficult to eat. Aside from that, Aviv is a great bakery and I highly recommend it!
Delicious pastries, the vegetable pastie was so good! If you're vegetarian and looking for lunch definitely worth dropping in grabbing a bite and chatting to the lovely staff.
I totally love this place. Having been brought up in a European home I am familiar with all the baked goods they sell . They are all of the highest standard and of the most authentic quality. It's always busy, but there is enough staff to quickly and efficiently serve you.
Fabulous quality. A great selection of delicious cakes and pastries. The Xmas mince tarts are the best in the known universe and the coffee eclairs are better than in Paris.
Best cakes and best coffee. Staff also, although very busy, always very nice. Four stars because they closed seating section. Pity
