The recent makeover is an absolute game changer for this place. Before these works I would have rated the place a 2 star.nnOnly thing for me holding it back from 5 stars is the lack of organic options. For your average shopper, this place has everything.nnThe staff have also improved out of site with the new owners and new look inside and out.nnParking is still always easy to get close by and they are open late-Ish.nnGreat for the area
Not my SIMS. Staff are friendly but the store, range, discounts and branding are not as great as they used to be.nThey don’t even have the Sims name on the building now.nnThe Werribee store is much nicer, and cheaper.
Advertised item Pepsi Max was not on shelf because the staff there were too lazy to spend time stocking the shelf worst supermarket in footscray no question about it!
Watch out for past use by date products. And the mildly discounted bread.nnThere's also regular door greeters happy to take donations for their own charitable use.
How rare is it to have every register staffed by paid human employees anymore? To have staff you can actually approach for assistance? So many of them have worked there for many years and know all their regulars. Some have their own kids that work there with them. Teens can still get their first job there and they usually give remarkably friendly customer service. I even appreciate the crankier ones, they are still very capable and do what is needed.nnAfter a dismal experience at the major national supermarket in central Footscray the other week, I was left really appreciating having Sims around the corner as my local.nnThe product selection keeps getting more diverse and more reliable as the years go by, though there is room for improvement e.g Brunswick IGA, the Mecca of all IGAs. I do still think the grey makeover was a misstep. Bring back the aqua and the superhero or even better, a mural referencing the history of Sims. Emphasising the community connection would be a distinct point of difference to the looming possible W**lw*rths next door.nnSims IGA is only getting better, the big chains are only getting worse. Put your money somewhere that actually flows back into the community or at least towards employing local floor staff.nnMy one probably unpopular suggestion would be to remove the car spaces outside the entrance, at least between the corner and the trolley bay. The amount of near-misses and dangerous driving they incite that close to the intersection is not good. People park there instead of the 2! spacious and often mostly empty carparks 15 meters away. Leave a few at the other end clearly designated for those with accessibility needs and take away the hazard.
